Talking Curve, Dust, Pouch?

Please Login to Remove!

I'm debating on whether to keep my Curve 8330 in my pocket, even when using the pouch that Verizon provided.

For those of you that have had Curves for quite some time, should I expect a great deal of dust, even with an in-pocket pouch?

In the pouch is recommended for battery life AND less dust and lint. I can't keep it my pocket in or out of a pouch--too bulky either way. But in the piuch will certainly protect it.

I just got this Sena leather pouch for my 8330 and it's great. It's the slimmest leather pouch I could find... and it's much slimmer than the BB pouch that comes with the Curve.

There's no magnet however to put in "holster mode" but I just hit the mute button to sleep it before putting it in the pouch. Same effect (buttons are deactivated and screen is shut down saving the battery).

Anyway... Check it out. It's really nice leather... ultra slim... much less bulky than the BB pouch.

Scrolling is so easy to fix it's funny. Anyone that would send in their phone on warranty, only to get a refurb, just because there is a speck of dust in the trackball is making a big mistake. Even if it needed a new trackball they can be had on the internet for around $12. Not worth it to me to end up with a refurb.

You will end up getting dust under your screen if you keep it in your pocket all the time, though.

if your a phone fanatic like me, dust under the screen wont be a huge issue until maybe a year of ownership (by then you will probably be shopping for a new handset anyways). i always keep my phone in my pocket without any case/sleeve and so far, only sony ericssons have had major dust problems. even then, you could easily open it up and wipe all the dust off and not worry about it for another year or so.

My 8320 got dust under the screen a couple months ago. I got it last september, so it was at around the 6 month mark. The tape/glue used to attach the plastic lens to the surrounding case gets loose from flexing and that's how the dust gets in.

I keep my phone in my pocket 5 days a week because were not allowed to "display" cell phones on our person at work. I've been keeping my 8320 in the oem sleeve/pouch that comes with it but I'm starting to notice a little problem. I have reason to believe that the pouch actually scratched my screen! There is a little scratch on the top right of my screen where one of the sharp corners of the center piece of leather connects to the main piece of the pouch. I also have begun to notice marks on both sides of my screen where this center piece (the one raised for trackball protection) comes into contact with the bb screen when in the pouch. I used to think the oem pouch was the perfect solution to carrying my bb but now I'm beginning to think I should look into some sort of softer pouch that will cover the bb in its entirety. Why are there sharp edges on the inside of the oem leather pouch anyways??? One would think RIM would have foreseen this.

I know I'm loving this case too. It's really really nice leather. I don't think it could be any slimmer. And it wasn't that expensive. Perfect for someone who keeps their BB in their pocket.

Awesome.

I've kept it in my pocket, in the pouch, since last sep, and not one speck of dust is visible.

I don't think I have ever heard that before. At what type of place do you work?

Seems like phones are pretty prevalent these days...have only seen restrictions like that at labs/secure facilities (and you can't have a phone in the facilty at all...)

US Folk in the Restaurant industry aren't supposed to have our phones visible. (I do it anyway)

guess I never thought about that. Can't have your phone ringing while you are waiting on customers!

I work as an officer for the Department of Homeland Security at the airport. That's why we can't display our phones. It has something to do with professionalism I'm assuming. So has anyone else had this problem with their oem pouch scratching their curve?

I think as a matter of personal safety one should have their phones visible, but silent. I think seeing a phone attached to a belt is of no issue, it's when people are on it when they are supposed to be doing something else that annoys me.

I use the 8330 Leather Belt clip and OEM Pouch, I have not noticed any scratching.
