"it says the seletcted video out device is is incompatible with this codec"

apparently the program has no idea what to do with that mpg file, it's in a format that it doesn't support

btw, if you happen to have NeroVision installed (or even Windows Movie Maker), you could probably convert that mpg into a VOB (Nero) or WMV (Media Maker) and then use Mplayer or Super to convert that....

And actually for that matter.. maybe try Super on that mpg, maybe it's compatible with whatever video file that is

So, for the less technically savy,

Is this a problem with the phone or with the files?

^ Good question.

I also have a problem with video's, they play (video and sound) but in the mist of playing they freeze my phone and I have to take the battery out to reset it. I'm not sure what the problem is, I use Quicktime Pro to convert the video's to the proper output format and the same error repeats.

Talking Video error?

I got a suggestion to use Super Video encoder and used the settings supplied inthe post however I played around using multiple programs including Quicktime Pro and had no luck until I used Super however the settings caused choppy playback but controls worked perfect. I used 23.95 FPS at 376KBPS and Audio at 64BPS, controls and timer are a little slow but video quality is razor sharp. The program is free and I regret buying Quicktime Pro because Super is sooooo good that it has more formats than you can imagine ( Not to be used for the Blacberry Pearl... Just use the AVI as the container and select H.263 as the format and choose the 352X288 plus 1:1 settings... that'll work!...but checkout the other formats , you can use them for different equipment) so a search for Super Video encoder because I cannot post the link yet ( Damn Rules! ) Also you can try different containers (Divx, 3gp and MPEG 4 but you may run into a few problems

Default Mac and video...

Use VisualHub. (visualHub.net)
i took a 700mg .avi file, converted it to 70mg mp4 file in about 5 min (New iMac 2 gig ram) - use the "Optimize for iPod" setting - select " Low" quality.
playes no prob on the 8100 player. Quality is very good.
just copy the file 2 the "movie" folder on the media card that is on your desktop.

I agree. I use very similar settings and my 40MB files will all play with working controls and are down to 8 with little or no video pixelation and excellent audio...just use Super and your memory card will be full in minutes here's the link: SUPER videos

[QUOTE=SanFrancisco]Didn't you see my post?

I can't say I saw it because I spend alot of time working and exploring the net is against company rules (We have screen recording at my job) Anyway, I placed that there because I tried many formats and will try more. I got videos to play with other formats but screen size was a little small. I won't use 25 KBPS because of the sudden frezzing however I posted outside of my home ( On Sat when there's alot of down time at the job and swore it was 23.95. Never the less Thanks alot..Someone here turned me on to Super and I bow down to you because you could have kept it to yourself but you shared. Sooo... If you use Slysoft DVD to mobile converter and use the passthru VOB option ( After you download the trial version ) you can use it for 21 days free, use it to convert a DVD to one large VOB file before you use Super to change it to a H.263 Mpeg4 file for your BB Pearl, this is how you get a full movie on the BB Pearl in one shot! After the 21 days expire you don't have to buy it to continue...just open a new user account in windows and you'll get another 21 days!

Thanks for posting a mac solution. So far I have been using Quicktime to export to a 12.5fps 3G file and it works fine. Not fast, but it is something that I already have.

Has anyone tried using handbrake to convert DVD? If so what settings have you used?

Hey guys,

When I run mencoder (with the command line options from the previous posts), I get the following error: Couldn't open codec mp3, br=64. The output file is 0 bytes. What do I need to do to install the mp3 codec?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Unhappy VOB File issue

I am having trouble getting MEncoder to work -- apparently due to a file access issue. When I attempt to run the command:
"mencoder -vf scale=240:180 dvd://1 -o output.avi -of avi -ovc lavc -oac lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=230:acodec=mp3:abitrate=64"

I receive the error: "Can't open file VIDES_TS.IFO".
I have also tried to use the actual .VOB file name in place of "dvd:\\" and I received an error simiar to "Can't open file XXXXX.VOB". When I attempt to copy the .VOB file from my DVD to my hard drive, I receive the error:
"Cannot create or replace VTS_01_2: File system error (-2147351799)."
This occurs on 3 DVDs I have used. Is this due to some type of copy protection? Has anyone else experienced this file access issue (and can provide a solution)?

murena22, Microsoft Power Toys often install additional options to right-click menus. Try this; open an Explorer window and browse to an image, such as a .jpg file. Right-click this image and you should see an option for "Resize Pictures". This will bring-up 4 choices: Small, Medium, Large and Handheld PC (240 x 320 res.)

Hopefully this helps.
