Within the last 3 weeks I have started to get hit by far more spam than usual.... Many are coming directly to my bb address while others that are blocked in outlook for example are coming through top the handheld. How are you folks effectively dealing with spam?

First of all, I would never give out my Blackberry webmail address. I would use one of the email services that has some type of spam filter. Then I would have Blackberry Web Service pull email from that account, to be pushed to my Blackberry. Yahoo! mail has an excellent spam filter, and Yahoo! mail's premium service allows POP3 access. The premium service is very reasonably priced.

I primarily use Earthlink's email service. I have my Earthlink email set to the "whitelist" option. Using a whitelist allows email to go to your inbox only from addresses that are in your address book. When email comes from a sender whose address is not in your address book (your whitelist,) Earthlink puts that message in a pending folder, and sends the sender of that message a challenge message to make sure that its a real person. It works very well.

I have gotten alot of spam lately too (Nextel 7520) Tech Support says to delete them and they are working on the porblem. That does not help when a 3 AM spam comes in and wakes you up.
I work for a oil spill response company and the phones must be avail 24/7.

I sure hope they get this fixed fast.

Thanks for the response. I think alot of spam is getting through. I never give out the BB address but yet I'm getting hit genirically alot....other filters, ie:Web Client, Outlook arent not stopping it - they had previously.

It may be that the BB market is getting big enough to lure the spammers, who knows. All I know is hackers and spammers along with virus writers are a waste of space on the planet, IMHO
