Default When Handheld Info Vanishes from Exchange

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

For the 2nd time I will be doing a db recovery on an Exchange 2003 server. The last time I did this I lost all bb handheld info and I ended up deleting, recreating and re-activating all users. With 35 users, about 25 of them on the road, it took me 3 weeks to complete the process -- most of it on the phone.

I am running BES 4.1. I am wondering if there are some things I can do to protect, preserver and/or manually edits the Exchange store to prevent this from happening again.

Here is an interesting thread with a similar problem: can't post url even if its to this forum. this is the title: "problems with BES after recovering a crashed Exchange 2003 server"

I am hoping for something proactive

Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks
Dean

I use symantec backup exec 2010 and it will restore the Storage group complete or mailbox complete.

What are you using for a backup solution?

This won't be a restore from backup it will be an Exchange Recovery. You mount an empty database to the Storage Recovery Group and merge mailbox data from the corrupt database.

See MS KB Article ID: 824126 -
How to use Recovery Storage Groups in Exchange Server 2003

But to answer your question I am using SymBE v8

do an exchange restore and then a mailbox merge from your recovery

users will have email fast and will work until the recovery is done

yes, the exchange side of things i don't have a problem with. But the bb handheld info table does not merge along with the mailboxes. The recovered store won't have bb info after completion.

I did this a year ago

copy stores for repair
restore all stores and get exchange running for users
in recovery mode, copy messages over for users.

worked like a charm
