You're late to the party, Mr K. If you are talking about the icon that's a download link, hide it. You cam also delete the service book, but it'll probably come back.

It would be like having crapware pushed to your personal computer after you've bought it, set it up, deleted all the crapware, and started using it.

I don't have Canuck's issue. My BB is personal. But it is mine, and I wan't control over what is installed on it, at least to the extant of something like this. If I want facebook, I'll go get it. TMO can send me a text or email or snail mail telling me this is available, but don't push the dang thing to me, not even a service book for a download link.

I see your point on some level. Having said that, we all yap that we want better integration between our BBs and the Apps we use. The only way this will happen is with partnerships between RIM and its service partners. Are a couple pushed apps links and service books that difficult to stomach when viewed in a larger context?

It's an irritation. I don't like it. But it could be worse.

Yes. What if I were Democrat and they were Republican, and decided to push the launcher to the GOP website onto my device? What if they were anti-abortion and pushed a link to the Christian Coalition website onto my device, and I support pro-choice? What if they liked Chevy vehicles and I was a Ford driver, and they pushed a link to the Toyota website onto my device?

The point is that they are making an assumption that the user likes or approves of this content based on corporate moneymaking between the two companies. I personally feel these social networking websites are a scourge and contribute to the "dumbing down" of much of the general populace, as well as encouraging younger persons to display, on permanent record, indiscretions of their youth without warning them in 10 years it may well destroy a future opportunity. This is irresponsible sheparding of the next generation by the existing generation, they are being exploited for capital gain by a company (Facebook) which younger persons have not quite yet learned to look out for in life, something gained by experience.

If they want to *offer* Facebook, that's fine. But to invisibly install it on a user's device without consent is inexcusable and in bad faith to the community. That is my $0.02 US.

I bet you'd be really upset if they pushed a spell-checker on you

I don't like my carrier pushing anything onto my Blackberry that I didn't request. What's next, pop-up ads from content partners? I would suggest anyone who gets this crapola shoved onto their Blackberry call your carrier and raise hell. Make threats to leave, even if it's an empty threat. Let 'em know you really really hate that practice.

Suggestion: Don't be threatening or angry if you contact your carrier. If your carrier offers special CSRs for blackberry customers, ask for one. Just politely make it known you don't like it and don't want it. Do something like ask how to remove the service book and have it not be pushed back again.

There may be a way to opt out of this stuff. I looked on TMO's web site but so far haven't found the particular settings to do it.
