Default What advantage has WiFi over Network connection

Please Login to Remove!

I have a BB contract with unlimited internet and e-mail in the contract. I have set up WiFi connection to my home Internet as well.

What advantage do I have to be connected to my Mobile Network Internet Provider as well as to my Home Internet Provider via WiFi?

Does WiFi overrule Mobile Network download?

I have no GB limit on the down/upload volume so I don't have to limit my usage to reduce costs.

Is it speed? Should I only use it if I browse the internet a lot? Should I each time disable WiFi when I walk out of the house?

I feel it drains my battery very fast (<24h) in a new (<3 week old) phone.

I use wifi at home when I'm browsing a lot, like reading rss feeds or the wap version of BBF, because it is faster than EDGE. I turn off the mobile radio to save power. When I'm not using wifi, I turn it off for the same reason, to save power.

I'm not sure how you will see it on your model and OS, but look in options / mobile network / connection preference. Set wi-fi preferred, or mobile preferred, as you like.

The WiFi speed is about the only advantage you will see.

Actually, I usually have GPRS at home... Wifi is a lot faster. As JSanders says, it's the only reason I switch to wifi over mobile.

Thank you all for your quick answers which make sense. I had a look in my options but cannot see anywhere to set Use "WiFi over Mobile Network" so I assume the phone does it for me automatically.
All the best and I am sure I'll be back with more questions one day....

The battery life on my Bold 9000 is much better with wifi vs. 3G. If I am out of the house and away from my wifi connection, my battery will last about 15 hours. When I am home all day and on wifi, I can get through the day with 30-40% battery remaining.

I recently found another advantage. WiFi let's me download larger email attachments. My mobile network provider limits them to 2MB.

The biggest advantage to me is I can be on the phone and surf the web at the same time.
