Is there a way to DISABLE Auto Text entirely? for some odd reason, it takes simple words like "on" and converts them into French phrases. I have deleted the Auto Text entries as I find the anomalies, but I would prefer to disable Auto Text in its entirety, across all applications on the device. can I do that?

Lawrence, what language are you using on your BB? If it is converting a simple word like "on" to some French phrases, it is because you might have French enabled as the language, or you might have programmed it to do so. Was this a new phone or purchased used?
Hmmm I thought it was a little weird. I just figured that it was some sort of Auto Learn feature of Auto Text or something... But then again, I don't speak French.

I fixed this problem in my employers AT&T 8800. For some strange reason we found instead of English (North American), Autotext was set to "Calata" - whatever that is. After changing it to English (NA) the problem was solved.
In order to completely remove the auto text, go to messages, compose email and press the key with '*' for at least 2 seconds. To my pearl device, it worked just fine.

I found this response on the web while trying to find an answer to how to turn off the autotext. It works too.
"It sounds as though you are referring to the SureType technology. In order to disable SureType and enable MultiTap you will go to Options > Language > Input language and set the option to English (United States, MultiTap)."
