Default BB Calendar Sync Issues with Outlook

Please Login to Remove!

Hi There, I'm currently administrating a BES 4.0 environment using BB 8700g for the clients. All is going well except for Calendar. When I place an entry into my Outlook Calendar it instantly goes to my BB. No Problems. When I place an entry into my BB it stays there even after I do a manual Reconcile Now and do a Send and Receive in Outlook. Any idea on how to resolve this issue please?

The first thing I'd try is deleting the Desktop[CICAL] service book. Go to Settings/Tools --> Options --> Advanced Options --> Service Book, high lite Desktop[CICAL], click the wheel and select Delete. Although you can just resend the service book wirelessly, I'm also in a BES 4.0 environment and find it more reliable to sync wired through Desktop Manager. You may want to do that to all the Desktop[xxx] service books.

Although I doubt it, it might also be a conflict in your Calendar. View your calendar as an Events List - make sure you're seeing everything in the calendar - and look for a crossed yellow swords icon in the left column.

Is this effecting all users?

If so, check the versions of:

MAPI32.dll and CDO.dll on both the BES and the Exchange

These versions must be matching. If there is a mis-match with either of these files then this may be causing the problem.
Also check permissions on the BB Service Account and possibley re-register the CDO.dll file.

If is only effecting 1 user, then delete and then undelete the Desktop [SYNC] service book. This will force a slow sync which may also resolve the issue

Hi Jerry and B_Owned,
Thanks for you replies. This issues is efecting all users and is happening in two separte BES 4 sites that I look after and neither site has any connection to the other. Both environments use Exchange 2003, Outlook 2003, Bes 4 and BB 8700g handsets. Unfortunately due to the nature of the end users dong wired sync's is not an option. Checked the dll's and both seem to match.

Steve4214,

I am having this same issue with my clients BB 7130e devices not syncing when they make an entry on the Blackberry calendar. Nothing shows in their Outlooks calendar. I have also checked the DLL file version and they are the same. I've applied BES SP2 for Exchange hoping that would resolve the issue. It hasn't.

If you have solved this issue, could you let me know. In the meantime, I'm going to continue "trying things", though, I am fairly new to BES.

I will also try to call RIM, but thinking it's going to be hours upon hours before I get someone on the line. If I get this, I will update to this forum also as it seems many ppl are having this issue.

Tom
Tom / Steve,

I only offer this as an observation.

First, there's a KB article reporting a problem with the 7130e (and 7250) and long (>160 characters) SMS messages on the Telstra network that requires firmware version 4.1.0.364 (package version - not firmware version) or later. (see Long SMS message is illegible on 7130e and 7250 )

Current firmware versions for the 7130e are:
  • Telstra - 4.1.0.309
  • Verizon - 4.1.0.268
  • Sprint - 4.1.0.318
  • Cingular 7130c - 4.1.0.321
Finally, and unfortunately I can't find the reference now, we received a notice at my office (before the release of the 7130) that the 7100 series required a firmware update to fix a time problem. Not sure if it relates, but interesting that you're having a calendar problem, and the 7100 series has a history of time problems....

I'll re-post if I can find the reference later today.

I am also having the same problem whereby the BlackBerry device just doesn't sync anything to do with calendar with our Exchange Server.

I have checked both of the DLL's which are the same version number on both servers. I have even done a fresh copy of these files just in case one of them was corrupt.

Currently have a 8700C device, everything else works fine. Just calendar seems to play up.

We're running BES 4.0.46. Would upgrading to 4.1 solve the issue. I don't really want to have to do an Enterprise Activation again on the device.

Thanks in advance.

upgrading to 4.1 didn't help it for us (the .dlls and the permissions are right) - the 4.1 SP2 documentation says it solves the problem but we've seen that in the documentation before and still had the issue with the calendar not wirelessly synching from the handheld to Outlook.

Can you accept appointments and does it send out a confirmation on the Blackberry?

Have you checked permission levels on the exchange server? Have you given the account, used to install BES BESAdmin) permission to "Send As" on the domain? Also, in the security properties of the Exchange Server, check to make sure the account used (BESAdmin) has permissions to the information store, Receive As, and Send As.

Found something that might help

I've recently up-graded the BES to the latest version and still get the same issue. Also the BlackBerry device does not receieve appointments even though they do come into the Outlook inbox. Have check permissions and they all seem good.

I have the same issue as well (can receive calendar items from Outlook/desktop to handheld but not vice-versa, also no meeting invites) but other users using a 8700e on verizon with BES do not. Should I try deleting the service books as the first reply suggests?

Hi

i had the same problem where users would add an appointment in there outlook and the appointment would appear in the blackberry but would not work the opposite way, i managed to fix the problem.
the bes admin account needs to have full mailbox rights in the exchange server, it did not it had a deny to write to mailbox once this was changeed everything worked fine.

Checklist:

Server-side:
1) What ajaibm said: verify BESAdmin user has full exchange rights.
2) Verify all Blackberry services are running, especially "Blackberry Synchronization Service."
3) For the user in question, go to "Properties > PIM Synch" and verify "Bidirectional Synchronization" is enabled.

Device:
1) Go to "Calendar"
2) Go to "Options"
3) Verify "Wireless Synchronization" set to "Yes"

Hope this helps,
Pete

Angry RIM withholding answer

I have the same one-way sync problem. I found out that RIM has a knowledgebase article that explains the steps to fix this problem, and they promised to send it to me. When it never arrived, I called back and was told the promise was made in error. I couldn't have it because it was reserved for a certain level of paid support customers and I wasn't one of them. For just under $300 bucks, I could buy a one-time support service and they would let me have the document. Wow, that's customer service for you! So, I am still screwed unless I renew our support contract, which I'm not sure I want to do.

For those of you with active support contracts, the article you are looking for is KB10105 called "Calendar Entries Not Syncing with Outlook". I'd love to know what is says, so if anyone is so inclined to make the secrets available, I would be in your debt.

Default BESAdmin

Make sure that your BlackBerry services are started using the BESAdmin account. My BES was not using this account and changing it to use BESAdmin as the service account fixed the problems with Calendar sync that we were having.

I've been beating my head against my desk for the better part of a month trying to resolve this issue. Turns out my problem users had their addresses hidden from the Global Address List in Exchange. I have no idea who changed this, but I'm just glad it's fixed.

+1 on the BESAdmin account!

I also made the mistake of not properly reading the install document and installed it as Administrator first. Then I had to go through the changing user and set everything up as BESAdmin, and Voila! Bidirectional calendar sync works.

I have a Windows 2003 enviorment and the BB server was setup by a NON IT person. We log into the BB server with a non besadmin account.
So my question is what groups in Active Directory do I give the besadmin to make our calendars work correctly.
Our AD doesnot have a besadmin acoount in it so I will have to create it from scratch.

Thanks
