So who wants to write to Blackberry Stuff and find out their contact for the manufacturer of these cases?

The magnet doesn't want to shift readily...as they probably sewd (is that really the past tense of sew?) around it. I'm tempted to break out the razor blade...

It seems to me when looking at mine compared to the OEM holster that the magnet on the Milante case was placed on the wrong side.

Where as the magnet on the RIM holster is slightly to the right of the holster's clip the magnet on the Milante case is slightly to the left of it's clip.

And the plot thickens.

It appears the case is made by www.amzer.com

I've sent an e-mail to them regarding this thread and our concens.

Even more disturbing though is the fact that I don't see a case for the 8700 listed in their product line up. I'm guessing this is yet another case of Blackberry Stuff.com selling a 72xx series case and marketing it as 8700 compatible.

I will keep you updated if I hear back from Amzer.

Milante's site (with all the designer stuff) looked like they were a legitimate brand. They had no contact information at all, which was odd. Its the Ancona model, if that makes it any easier.

So I wonder how Amzer plays into this then.....

Anyway I found an e-mail address for Milante and sent them the same e-mail.

Hold on,
Are you guys orientating the berry's sweetspot with the case's sweetspot?

If the magnet is on one side and the phone's spot is on the oppisite then maybe the phone should be reversed in the case?

I'm still not sure about all this, my milante hasn't come in yet...

Thanks Greenberg!

Sleeper function doesn't work regardless of which way you put the BB in it.

The magnet is sewn into the case on the belt clip side.

Therefore the only logical way to put the 8700 into the case is with the screen facing in.

I heard back from someone at Milante today!

They have started an investigation to find out if the case is working properly.

I will keep everyone updated on the progress.

Here is the message I just received from Milante:

"Lawrence,

Further investigation into this problem has lead me to this.

The MIL-75 Ancona Hydrofoam case was originally designed for the BlackBerry 7200 series to protect the handset from dust and scratches. This is a universal case and we are fitting many other units in this case as well so compatibility is not always going to be perfect and in this matter it is with the sleep mode function. Due to the size of the 8700 being a little different from the 7200 series the position of the magnet is a bit off from where it would be ideally for the 8700 to go to sleep.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention as we are now working to correct this for future models.

Best Regards,

Paul Griffin

Wow...uh...think they could've mentioned that on their site?

That's the last time I spend my money there, that's for sure.

I just got mine in and realized the sleeper function didn't work at all with my 8700c. I was able to shift the magnet with my fingernail over closer to the center and up a little bit and it now works but my blackberry has to be face out. A little weird to get used to since I'm used to having it face in, but at least it works and I don't have to go out and buy a different one. Not the most glorious solution, I know, but it is functional. Hope this helps a bit.

I just got this case in the hopes that they had fixed the probelm. Well it seems the magnet is still not in the correct spot.

Wish I would've read this post before I ordered mine, too. I had been hoping that Blackberry would release its own OEM foam holster, like the one I loved for my 7250. Since this was on the page for 8700 on bberry, I assumed it was a newer version. However, it is basically identical to the 7250 holster except for the inner lining and the Milante logo. I'll be sending it back and hoping someone can come up with a newer version, and that companies like bberry market cases correctly in the future.
