Default Latest OS: 8530 5.0.0.858/5.0.0.508 (Multilanguage)

Please Login to Remove!

Software For BlackBerry® Curve(TM) 8530 smartphone

BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.858 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 5.0.0.858
Consisting of:
Applications: 5.0.0.508
Software Platform: 4.2.0.230
File name: 8530AMEA_PBr5.1.0.0_rel858_PL4.2.0.230_A5.0.0.508. exe
File size: 98.4 MB

Download: http://appstore.vzw.com.edgesuite.ne...A5.0.0.508.exe

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's device:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device

Got this loaded with no issues or errors and reconnected to BES. The only thing I've noticed is I now have an icon on the top, a red circle with a line thru it (a prohibition symbol). What does that mean?

Well, it went away on its own, but still curious to know what it meant.

Holding the mute key at the top of the device no longer puts the device into STANDBY. It LOCKS the device now.
How do i change it back to putting the device into STANDBY?

In fact, a better question is, which perserves the battery better, standby or lock?

I don't think either does, all it appears to do is just kill the screen.

Anyone else lose Voice Dialing with this upgrade? Mine wouldn't initialize. Tried battery pull and no help. Ended up with Vzw tech support. Had to wipe the phone to get it to work. Back up all your info before doing it.

I have been looking for the lock button and i cant seem to find it. I read that there is a bug where the app has been deemed unnecessary. Has there been a solution to get this back yet?

My upgrade went fine too, but lost the lock icon. Have to hold the A button and unlock with the button on top. Too bad because I liked using my left convienence key as the lock.

Default Lock/standby option

I also lost the lock option.

Any other options for putting the phone on standby?

Default Battery life shortened?

Anyone else seeing their battery die faster after performing this upgrade?

Upgrade went smooth, no issues at all.

Differences noticed so far...

1. No longer any lock icon in the BB menu.

2. In order to lock the keypad(completely locked, hitting any key will just light up the screen and tell you it's locked) you must press/hold the top middle button until the screen goes black. Tap this button again to unlock the phone.

I actually like that change. No more having to make sure the lock icon is on my home screen(or browsing through the BB menu to find it), and no more having to hit * and Send to unlock the phone. One button does it all.

Can't tell you anything on battery yet, my battery drained kinda quickly anyways and I've had this new OS for only about 5 minutes so far.

Gotta double-post since it won't let me edit my last post.

I can confirm the shorter battery life with this OS update, compared to the last OS available.

Around 3:30am I took my fully-charged 8530 off the charger, locked it, and set it on my headboard like I always do before bed. I woke at 10:30am to find that my battery life was at 45%. NO apps were running or anything, I never leave anything running and this was the first thing I checked after I noticed how low the battery was. In 7 hours, idle and locked, the battery life went down 55%...that's completely un-acceptable, especially when this thing usually only drops 5-10% in that scenario. This is is still pretty much brand-new, only a week or two old...so it's not the phone or the battery just yet.

Hopefully they fix this and release another update soon, I hate downgrading.

I have tried to do re add through the PIN numbers, email, everything possible thing i could. Please help as i dont know what is wrong, i have been chatting with both contacts with no problems till 3 days back!

Find the section for your model, and create a new thread about your issue. This thread is for downloading the most recent OS for your 8530, and reporting additions/subtractions/issues with the update.

It does this to me sometimes as well. I think it is registering two button presses somehow...once to unlock, once for media menu. I noticed if I press the button quickly/more firmly, it happens less often. Either way it looks to be something we're stuck with.

A quick tap on the Mute button should take you to the Media folder. A slightly longer press and hold (not too long though) should unlock the keyboard and take you back to where you were when you locked it. After you do it a few times you'll see how long to hold it.
