Thanks. I have now downloaded to my PC, Desktop Software 4.2 sp2 and BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.1.181. I'm still not 100% sure of what the next step is. My BB is connected to my PC.

Open Application loader and check the box for BBMessenger. Hit "Next," "Finish," or whatever it asks to complete the loading process.

This is where my confusion kicks in. I have opened the Desktop Manager and gone to application loader. There is nothing in there for BB Messenger.

Am I supposed to do something with the handheld software that I downloaded to my PC?

Did you delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader? Check and make sure it's deleted. Then run application loader again. If it's still not there then you haven't installed the OS properly or the proper OS.

I have the 8320 and didn't have the Blackberry messenger either. I followed your instructions and everything went well. Only problem is i don't have the Blackberry Messenger icon. I set my icons to "show all" in case it was jut hidden, but i can't find it. I checked my applications and the Blackberry Messenger 4.2.2 is listed. How can i get the icon?

I deleted the file and re-installed the OS on my PC and when I run the app loader all I get is the message "A fatal error occurred while updating your device's software. Please try again."

What do you recommend? I have been consumed by getting BBM installed on my VZW 8830 after it was accidentally deleted and I feel soooooo close. Please help.

If you reinstalled the OS, then you'll need to delete the file again. However, the error you're getting sounds like an issue with the USB port or with your computer.

I tried re-installing the OS again...same result. I never had any problem with my USB or my computer before this. What do you recommend?

Finally got it working. I had to use the app loader in the destination file, not the DM. Thanks for all the help.

Go peruse the sticky messages at the beginning of the Rim Software forum. Also there is an excellent tool, called the search function that works really well. You also might want to take a look at the FAQ. Lots of good info there.

i honestly didn't. i don't know what i'm doing wrong this is so frustrating. i went to the sprint downloads site and downloaded but even still...

and when i go to application loader, there is no option for bbm, only for the applications that i already have. i thought that perhaps by wiping the handheld this would solve my problem, no dice.
