Default SMS Address?

Please Login to Remove!

I have an interesting one:

Is there a way to determine what address an SMS was sent TO when it appears on my phone? For example, you can send an SMS to [email address], [email address], and other addresses and get the SMS to the same device.

The reason I ask is, I signed up for SMS notification of breaking news on a network's website, and every email address I can think of that gets to my phone comes back with an error that I haven't signed up for alerts.

So, how do I know what method the network used to get the alerts to me?

Why not just use the phone number? You don't need an address for SMS.

You're missing the point; I've already done it. Now I want to UNDO it, and I can't undo it without providing the email address I subscribed with. This isn't an SMS I'm trying to send, it's a news alert I've signed up for with an unknown email address that sends an SMS to my phone.

So the question still stands: is it possible to see what path an SMS took to get to you?

Try forwarding it to your email as an MMS and see what the headers say that it originally came from.

You're right. I did miss the point.

It's probably a service that ignores requests to unsubscribe. :/

Anyway, your carrier should be able to tell you what the valid address(es) is (are) for one of their numbers.

It's Fox News - they've been fine with unsubscribing when I provide a valid email address.

But I like the MMS approach - I had tried just forwarding it along, and no headers showed up. But maybe with MMS they will. I'll give that a shot once some other news-worthy item appears, like Britney Spears has been spotted still alive (hence the desire for the unsubscribe

It depends on how long you've been with AT&T. As you may know, they were AT&T, then Cingular and now at&t... and with those changes come a plethora of 'email addresses' for your phone... these are the ones that I remember... good luck. (I don't believe there is a way to identify it from any SMS that you have received...

Might I suggest that they actually want a real email address. while you may have signed up by SMS, did you supply them an email address also?
