Angry Blackberry Pearl 8100 black screen

Please Login to Remove!

Bought an unlocked black berry 8100 @ Comp usa on the 16th February. It worked fine until I got to the airport. Now when I switch it on it only stay on for six seconds then the screen goes
blank. When it is switched on I see the screen to enter my password but when I try to enter the password nothing appears on the screen - as if the keys are not working. Today I tried switching it on again and it came on briefly as usual but then I could see asteriks appearing in the password box as if by magic (similar to a techie working remotely on your computer) so I am thinking that a
key is stuck.

The phone comes on under the following scenario

1. If I plug in the charger;

2. if the charger is unplugged

3. if I take out and re-insert the battery

but in all of these situations it only stays on for six seconds, then the screen goes
dark as if it is hibernating.

The phone does not come on when the power button is held down!

I have followed the link here

supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/board/message?board.id=8100&thread.id=13905

and whilst I have managed to upgrade to the latest OS the phone still goes off after 6 seconds. The screen does come on intermittently but only for a few seconds and I can see asterisk being enterd in the password box, though not by me! What else can I do?

I think you may need a new battery, i would try that. everything you are stateing to me sounds like a POWER issuse so i would try getting a new battery and that might solve all your problems.

I put the battery in today and the screen shows 'app error 200 reset'. Oh man. This brand new phone should not be giving me so much heartache!

The app 200 error has disappeared on it's own but the phone still has the original reported problem of the screen flickering on intermittently and I can see asteriks being entered in the password box but not by me! They keyborad is dtill unresponsive.

The phone screen still go blank after six seconds and the power button won't wake it up or turn it on. To get it on I have to plug/unplug the charger or take out and re-insert the battery. HELP! PLEASE!!!

You may want to try to de-install the OS and reinstall it. here are some steps for doing the de-install:

I used DM to check my device property and it shows the battery level as 15% even though the battery is fully charged. Is this percentage normal? Could you guys please check yours and report back? Thanks. I am just trying to see if I can eliminate things as I go along as the reason for the pearl not working.
