Default Best Blackberry For Slacker Radio

Please Login to Remove!

I am thinking about buying a new or used Blackberry so that I can use Slacker Radio with it. Since I have no Blackberry experience what so ever, I am looking for suggestions on what Blackberry to get. Does Slacker work equally well with all of them? Is it better to get a touch screen Blackberry? I know that there are Blackberries on different networks and right now I am thinking of a used CDMA Blackberry that will work with Page Plus Cellular (a Verizon MVNO). Also, can you store the same amount of content on all of the Blackberries or do the Blackberries vary significantly in memory capacity?

I was ideally hoping to get a Blackberry that would also have a stand alone GPS that could be used without the data connection, but I gather that is very difficult to do. If I understand it correctly, the Blackberry GPS can be accessed, but getting maps on the device seems to be the problem.

Wirelessly posted (White and Nerdy)

Good luck with your gps... Not gunna happen.

As for your slacker, any of the new berries have a boatload of memory which make them very fast.
Need I remind you that you need data connection for slacker... That said, here's the phones that I suggest

Bold 9000- gps/wifi
Curve 8900-gps/wifi
Tour 9630 -gps

Touchscreen doesn't matter if you are just using it for music. These devices are all running 4.6 or higher and have a bunch of ram(free file) to use for multitasking, music, etc.

Default Best Blackberry For Slacker Radio

Now I am curious about the data requirement for Slacker Radio. I understand that it caches the music rather than stream. I was hoping to be able to get the content on there via USB cable or wifi. Are you saying that Slacker has to download the music by the cellular data connection and that it cannot download it from wifi or USB cable then?

You could use wifi to cache music from Slacker to your Micro SD card. Have never tried it from PC via data cable.

I have it on my 8220 (not noted for it's beefy memory), and it works great.

If you are not planning on using data, how about a Pearl? Small form factor, and you can use at least an 8 gig (maybe up to 16 gig?) memory card for Slacker to cache the music via usb. Its light on internal memory, but you won't be using a lot of other programs without a data plan.

That said, I'm not sure if Slacker will work without data? I *think* it has to connect to the servers the first time you use it to verify your account. Not sure about that though...
