better browsers?
Please Login to Remove!
is there any word of a "better" browser for upcoming BBs? i have the 8300 and use Opera, but i'd like a built-in browser that works better...wife and i were looking at going 3Gs, but if there were upcoming BBs with better browsers i think i might wait...
any word on browsers for upcoming devices, preferably on att?

the built in browsers are part of the OS and not exactly by device.
Os 5 may produce a better browser, we just don't know.
i cant imagine its going to be much faster the current one.
if browsing is more important to you than the other features of a BB, then I would go for the 3Gs

i understand the browser/OS link...just wondered if a new one by RIM was coming, rather than resorting to 3rd party apps...
browsing not necessarily more important, but browsing on the BB can be frustrating...i can browse on the 3Gs AND get email too, so i'd be gaining then...

You could also try the Bolt Browser as another 3rd party solution. The reason OM and Bolt are quicker than the BB Browser is that the pages render on their servers and not the device, that allows pages to load faster. The BB Browser renders pages on the device.

The Bolt Browser is MUCH better than it was in its initial release. In fact, they just recently released a new version the other day.
Scrolling is MUCH faster. I say give it another shot and see how you like it. If you still don't like it, you can always uninstall it again

Is OS5 due out for the 8300 model?
Or is it still fuzzy on which older models will get?

I've heard yes, then no. It's all pretty up in the air as far as I am concerned.

With the Bolt Browser rendering pages on it's server, how does it handle passwords and logins? Do all my logins make a stop on the Bolt server? If so, forget it.

I believe so since cookies are not stored on the BB.
But I haven't tested this one Beta 3

You do have to assume that they would want to leave 4.5 as the final upgrade for some of these older devices even if they were able to get 5.0 running quick enough on some of the older hardware and realistically with memory constraints that task wouldn't be an easy one either. I expect that if you aren't already running 4.6 or newer on a gsm blackberry then you won't be seeing 5.0.
CDMA might be different since it has less models anyway and they haven't had their version of a curve 8900 in the meantime either.

I had a thought, do we know what OS the Tour is being released with?
You would imagine it may be running 5, in which case general release for 5 might not be so far away.

I do know that there were leaks of 5.0 of some 83xx models. However, I also heard that the builds may stop there. Those builds were NOT stable at all.

Shouldn't the guys in Beta You Than Me "testing" OS 5.0 know if there is a better browser? It doesn't seem like this should be something that RIM can surprise us with.

The problem is with 5 being a early beta, people have had problems with the browser for example only getting a wap and hotspot browser and not the internet browser.
I imagine this is because the service books to enable internet browser, aren't compatible with OS 5.
once OS 5 is released, I imagine new service books being pushed.
