Default Contact sync with out Outlook?

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

I just got my first smart phone a BB Storm. So far it does everything that I need, however I don't have outlook and thus am having some trouble putting in my contacts.

What other options are available for me? I have windows vista.

I have tried google sync, however I am not sure how the fields map and have not played around with it enough to figure it out. Are there any free programs out there I can run on my computer to transfer contact info to my BB?

Thanks for the help.

Steve

Not many other options. If you have Vista, do you also have Outlook Express? You can sync contacts with that. I think the other supported options are Agenda, Lotus Notes and GroupWise.

Outlook is the most widely supported PIM, since it is on the majority of corporate desktops these days, and at home, because of Microsoft Office.

Windows Live Mail in Vista will sync the contacts with the BlackBerry.

Thanks so much for the help. I managed to get somewhere with google sync. I'll keep the info about Windows live mail.

Thanks,
Steve

If you're not syncing and you're using the other PIM apps (calendar, notes, tasks) then make sure you're regularly backing up. I don't recall what does and doesn't sync via the non-Outlook methods but IIRC they don't sync everything.

Just select it under the Synchronization Settings in BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

I don't see Windows Live Mail as an available desktop application to synchronize with. I show "Yahoo" and "ASCII Importer/Exporter." Is there something that you need to do within Windows Live Mail to make it "recognizable" to BB desktop manager? What version of DM are you using? Many thanks for any help you can provide. The inability to sync my Curve to my desktop calendar and contacts is maddening!

Did you try Google Sync? I use it to keep my calendar in sync on the BB and multiple computers using Outlook. Entourage (Mac) and Thunderbird/Lightning.

Have not tried contacts as those are pretty static.

It reads "Windows Address Book/Mail". I didn't do anything in Windows Live Mail (because I don't use it for email. I only use it to sync my BlackBerry Address Book).

I'm using version 4.7 of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager. I would imagine that it's the same with version 4.6.
