Default Anyone know of this 8800 car mount?

Please Login to Remove!

It's an OnCourse Ed 2 Powered PDA Cradle Mount with Integrated Speaker for BlackBerry 8800 Series. Looks like it's custom fitted for the 8800 series - even has a cutout for the convenience key. Has a combo USB/headphone plug to charge the BB and connect to a built-in speaker on the base. It's $50, which seems pretty high, so I wanted to see if anyone has tried it or anything else from this company?

don't know that one but I have always had success with Proclips:
ProClip Mounting System - Choose Your Country

used them on my 8700 and now my 8300

$50 for everything this thing claims to do sounds a little cheap to me and I worry about it's quality. I use the ProClip for my 8800 and it work perfectly. It does not have all the bells and whistles of this "swiss army holders" but it works perfectly!

I definitely like the suction-cup mounting solution. I think I would only use a mount when I'm getting directions via GPS, and have it out of site when I'm not. Living in the city I like to keep things out of view and I like my car looking as "clean" as possible.

jeffabcc - That mount looks good and I like the features included with it. I'd be tempted to buy it, but not being able to test out the build quality and such makes it a tough decision. I'll be watching this thread to see if any owners of this product chime in.

Looks to be the same product for $30: OnCourse Ed 2 Powered PDA Cradle Mount with Integrated Speaker for BlackBerry 8800

Thanks wiscaudi, that is the same product for $20 less. I agree with you that I'm concerned about the build quality for something with so many features. I am also interested in this only for use with Telenav, otherwise my BB sits on the console. I'll probably buy it, so I'll be the guinea pig and I'll report back after I get it.

No prob. At the $30 price point it's a little easier to swallow. I'm guessing the quality won't be an issue, as this product is being sold on multiple mobile phone / GPS accessory sites.

Can't wait to read your review! (And then pick one up)

OK. I've ordered it. Although the ProClip looks really nice too. I'll have a review when I get it.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8820/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

I'm also wanting to know about this car mount as I'm looking for a good car mount to use with my new 8820. Are there any others out there that can be recommended? Thanks.

Default Just got one

Ok, so I found good and bad with this mount. The suction cup works better than some of the others I have tried. The quality of the unit seems better than the price would suggest. The only real problem I have is the RF noise over the speaker that is built into the mount. If you unplug the cord to the headphone jack and usb you still get the noise. The only way to get rid of it is to unplug the power to the mount. Does anybody know if it is possible to add shielding to something like this?

I also highly recommend Proclip. They're not cheap but they are very good.

In response to the pro clip recommendations, the reason the suction mount was desirable is because it is easily removed and hidden in the vehicle. Since the pro clip requires "prying tools", this was not an option.

I'm glad the mechanics and structure of the mount is good quality. It's a little disappointing that there is noise associated with the charging system. Just out of curiosity, is it possible to plug the mount into the phone for speaker only, and use a separate car charger to charge the phone? Basically using the mount as a speaker, but not a charger... I would think this would remove the RF noise.

I think the only way to get rid of the noise and use all of the mount's functions would be to wire in a "filter" which would basically consist of a capacitor or inductor. Don't think it would be worth all the work... and I'm not sure exactly what specific components to use. Seems like the RF noise is being generated by the charger itself (probably because it's a low quality charger).

I'll be pickin one up! Thanks for the post-back review nwmud!

I don't think you can use the speaker without the power plugged in. I believe it is an amplified speaker. The usb and headphone jack is on one cord with a custom end. Not sure if you can just plug in the headphones without the usb plugged in either. I will give both a try tonight.

There is a switch on the side to turn the charging on and off though. I don't recall it making a difference noise wise.

I am using the Carkit.com adapter for the 8800 and it works great in tandem with a RAM mount. I use the speakerphone off the phone for speaker instead of a holder speaker but you can get that integrated as well I think. It powers the phone while in the adpater.

Parts Store: Hands Free Car Kit Phone Cradle Products — Car-kit.com

and also check..

RAM Mounts cell phone mount

A little more expensive but well worth the money and allows flexibility in moving into other vehicles on the fly.
