Default Latest 8820 OS: 4.2.2.338/4.2.2.184/2.5.0.40

Please Login to Remove!

Software For BlackBerry 8820 (TM)

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.2.338 (Chinese)

Package Version: 4.2.2.338
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.2.2.184
* Software Platform: 2.5.0.40
* File name: 8820CJK_PBr4.2.2_rel338_PL2.5.0.40_A4.2.2.184_Sing Tel.exe
* File size: 95.11MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

* Download Software https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...3314DF2B3CB9CE

Instructions for installing:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. Currently, the latest version available is 4.3 and may be downloaded here: http://www.blackberry.com/go/softwaredownloads
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It is located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Apploader
4. Plug in the BlackBerry and open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization." Don't unplug from the PC & Don't remove the battery unless the spinning hourglass has been there for 30 minutes or more. If the hourglass has been spinning for more than 30 minutes continuously you will need to wipe the device with JL_Cmder (close out of Desktop Manager during this process.) You will then end up with a white screen with small icons and an error code number like 507 or 543.

If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507/543, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

This was posted a few days ago:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...e-english.html

I've installed it and haven't seen anything new at all over 4.2.2.175. If anything, it seems a little sluggish compared to .175.

Anyone else install it?

I installed it over the weekend. I seem to be getting a LOT more java exception errors than ever before. Avantgo won't run at all even after "delete, battery pull, reinstall, battery pull". I've done that 3 times now. Even the MobiPocket is popping random java exception errors. Never saw those at all on the 175 release.

I'm on the road out of the country now...but I may go back to 4.2.2.175 once I get home.

It's strange. I haven't got any exception errors, although, as I said, it does seem sluggish. I'm running plenty of 3P apps.

I'm not a fan of this OS. It seemed sluggish to me. I went back to 4.2.2.175.

I installed v4.2.2.1784 (Platform 2.3.0.40).

A few small features that I like... when you're connected through Wifi, the name of the router is now displayed next to the network name.

Also on "Manage Connections" it displays the names of the mobile network; WiFi.

My problem: My keyboard is French. In the speed dial application, the keys are mapped based on the English layout (QWERTY) and not in line with the physical mapping of the my keyboard (AZERTY).

This issue seems limited to Speed Dial only. Any idea how I can get Speed Dial to "know" that my keyboard is AZERTY?

Thanks

The best change is the wi-fi performance. I use to drop signal one room away from my router... now works great.

Notice also the wi-fi router name now displayed next to the network name... neat and convenient to know you're connected to the wi-fi.

Is this a Chinese version or multi lang? It says Chinese when I do to download.
Dumb question I know. Also, does this update void any warranties with at&t?

It HAS English? But no one has said if it works well, better yet, IS English... I don't want to update for the sake of havin a higher version if I am gonna lose some quality/features... I see people posting things like keyboard problems etc... is this update worth it?
