Same for me (seattle). BB Maps works great with GPS...Google Maps does recognize the GPS. The good news is that it is NOT locked to VZNav only. Just an issue with Google Maps, but BB Maps works for free.

I'm having the same issues. I went into Options->Advanced Options->Maps to see if I could change the default application (BBMaps) to GM but no luck there. I'm wondering if I uninstall BBMaps if GM will become the default app? I have NO interest in paying for VZ Nav.

Imo, gps is gps when it gives you audible turn by turn directions. From what I'm reading, it still doesn't do this without vznav. Pointing to your current location on a map is useless.

Then pay for VZNav. But, some people are perfectly content with using BBMaps. Since my vehicle has navigation, I use GMaps for the search capability, and when I am walking, and not driving, or in a rental car. And, for free, GMaps is perfect.

Another interesting caveat..

GPS options are not listed under ANY menu in Google maps. Me thinks Verizon may have a hand in removing that bit of GPS functionality in Google Maps to force usage of VZNav. ..or maybe it's the Black Helicopters outside my window.

Are you new around here? Do you really think this is Google's fault?

Here is what I think, apparently.

I have the GPS working with the BBMaps application and it works great. I tried to load the Google Maps on my storm, but for some reason after it downloaded and I went to try to use it, it was not recognizing the touch screen. It wouldn't pan or scroll in the menus when I moved my finger around. Anyone else having this issue with GM?

I don't seem to have GPS options in BB Maps or GM. Just triangulation for both.

GPS doesn't seem to work for me under Google Maps or BB Maps. Thoughts?

For the two guys above that dont see GPS in BB maps either...make sure you GPS is on (options > advanced Options > GPS).

You should see cross hair icon with some ))) after it on your home screen below the signal meter. Then in BB Maps, click on the Sat icoon on the bottom of the screen. You probably just dont have GPS on.

It happened to me the first time I installed GM too. I uninstalled it and did it again from m.google.com/maps and now it works fine.

The only problem is that it doesn't track as I move, it tells me the location that I am at within 900meter range, not exact location.

Has anyone gotten amAze to work? I saw that they had a download link for the 9500, but when I don't see how to enter the user name and password. I can click the field and the keyboard comes up, but neither clicking nor pressing enter puts the text I typed into the field.

AH! I just figured out you have to press menu, then select OK. I'll try this at lunch and post if it works or not.

I just wish Google Maps would start making use of this. I swear I saw the GPS work BRIEFLY when I first started Google Maps, it pinpointed my location almost exactly, and since then it's been way off. Maybe I was seeing things.

Nope, I have to say amAze is not ready for primetime on the Storm. It is still in Beta, so hopefully they will get it working pretty soon. I've read good things about it on other phones.
