If the T Mobile price is $300 without a contract, I am considering buying one tomorrow and having it unlocked so I can use it on Cingular. Does anyone want to talk me down off the ledge?? If I thought the 8100 was really coming out on Cingular in October, I would wait, but the info I have gleaned from this board and others is that they are testing the device and there is no real set date.

It will probably cost 380, then add another 100 to unlock and you are at 480 plus tax.....probably best to wait and buy one from somebody second hand there are bound to be flippers.

You have waited this long why not wait a bit longer. This way you can see if there are problems and read more indepth reviews of the 8100 before you go and blow your wad on one. You may also want to see some of the things that are due out in the next couple of months.....ie the samsung i607 complete with wifi. Reports show that the i607 should be out in q3, that leaves only a couple more weeks.

At least wait until the rumored QWERTY devices are leaked or unveiled.

Well, I kind of bought one today. The reason I said kind of is I have one with my name on it and waiting for me to pick it up tomorrow. They had a bunch in stock but couldn't "sell" them until tomorrow. I did however switch services (from Sprint). I played with the demo they had and I will say its pretty cool. I was surprised by the quality of the device. It had a really nice feel to it (weight, etc.) All previous BB's have a cheap feel to them. This I thought was well made. It actually felt pretty solid. I LOVE the track ball. I found that I can spin through the selections better then the track wheel. Maybe its my long use of Treo's, where the control is done from the front of the device. Don't get me wrong, I loved the track wheel as well. I can't wait until I pick it up tomorrow. I was really hoping to take it with me. It was hard to leave the store seeing my name on the box and in a bag. Atleast I know I own one now and I will officially get it tomorrow. Less then 24 hours to go.

One other note. I called around today as a few stores played dumb and said to try back in a few weeks. Like that's going to happen. They did not know when they were getting it. They probably have 25 units in stock in the back room like this store does. I guess the corp. message worked for some. With great information that this forum provides, I sometimes feel I know more then most carriers.

I am not sure how many the store I got mine at has. I would imagine the bigger stores got 75 (or the most) then the smaller retailer stores. I believe they call them business centers or something like that.

That is what mine got.

My rep explained that the number of units they receive is based on how many other BB's they sold. Mine is sort of in the hood, so not too many BB's sold. Lots of SK3's sold though... LOL

I think everybody is going to like it. BG has made some very valid points, but I am really liking this thing. Just wait until you guys get your hands on one. If you have had a 7100 series before, its a no brainer. 8700 users will like the quality improvements and size, but will need to get use to the SureType. I have had them all and don't mind the SureType. I actually think its pretty good once it learns more words. The keypad is smaller then other 7100 models, so using SureType will be a little more challenging.

I have heard from multiple T-mobile employees that they have an exclusive until November 30, but everyone probably already knows that.
