I'll give it a try, I use Mapquest now and like their databases the best so far. Doesn't make as many mistakes for me as Telenav did.

Garmin app for BB should be like Garmin Mobile XT fro Symbian devices (SE, Nokia) so you could use a offline maps. That would be a killer app!

Garmin Mobile certainly feels faster than TeleNav. One shortcoming of GM for AT&T devices only is that there is no auto update feature. You have to either call in to Garmin CS in order to have a representative send you the latest JAD w/ new activation code, or hope that the OTA trial link represents the latest version. Another annoyance (as with nearly all other GPS programs and devices) is that if the app is not kept in the background and initialized, the "do not manipulate while driving" warning page is displayed and must be confirmed before the navigation UI is encountered. What is great about GM is that it works with all of the unofficial and beta operating systems I have thrown at it. Stability and speed is why I have chosen Garmin Mobile over TeleNav for my navigation needs.

I bought it and seems to work great.

Unfortunately Garmin themselves do not have much info however I had to try it.
I have an Unlocked Rogers BB Bold 9000r being used with FIDO (their other company) using BB Connect. I am in Canada so it does have all the North American Maps. Garmin was telling me that it only worked in the US. It is not carrier specific and the best way to buy is through Handago using the 8310 software Handago has not updated their site yet. Garmin does confirm it works with the bold.
Garmin also indicated that they are using newer maps. Now.

Garmin also told me that it would not work in Canada and refused to sell Garmin Mobile to me, both online or over the phone. The demo worked fine.

I bought it on Handango and it has worked fine on my 8800.

dicin, you mentioned that you are running it on the Bold. I am curious as to what the module name is. Mine is "gmhnobb8800" and is version 4.0.102, indicating it is 8800-specific, going by the module name. While I realize that the licence we purchase is device specific and not transferable, I am still curious what the module name is on the version that runs on the Bold... can you tell me? (I am planning to get a Bold soon).

The Garmin site would not allow me to download since Verizon is my carrier. I would like to know if it works with the gps puck or not (I don't care about the internal gps). When I called garmin they just said it would NOT work. But that may be because of Verizon's gps issue. I've the 8830.

I purchased it at Future Shop. It is a Rogers branded phone.

It is the BlackBerry Bold 9000r with Rogers latest update 9000M_PBr4.6.0_rel242_PL4.0.0.134_A4.6.0.125_Roger s.exe.

I have however updated it to the 9000EastAsia_PBr4.6.0_rel243_PL4.0.0.135_A4.6.0.12 6_Hutchison.exe.

This software works fine.

Sorry, I meant the module information for the Garmin Mobile software.

I just re-read my post and see how poorly I worded it...

The Garmin Mobile 7-day trial itself is v5.0.0. It is at getmobile(dot)garmin(dot)com(forwardslash)builtfor blackberry.

The 7 day trial is it a monthly subscription or a life time for North America?

I just downloaded the newest version suggested by Elrohir59:

getmobile.garmin.com/builtforblackberry

And it works on my 8830 with the Freedom 2000 puck.

The following link makes it appear that it is a one-time fee. There is a $99 (no puck) or $149 version (with garmin bluetooth puck)

Garmin | Garmin Mobile for BlackBerry - Turn your BlackBerry into a savvy navigator with Garmin Mobile

But it also appears that this one requires a DATA connection as opposed to "whatever" version had the maps on an SD card.

The other issue/question: Will the "version" that does not come with the bluetooth receiver work on an 8830 with my own bluetooth puck.

I'm not sure what you mean by locked/unlocked as those terms are applied in different places. The phone can be "locked" with a password. Then I gather that the phones can be or are locked/unlocked to carriers (I've verizon so I don't know this issue) and further the sim card aspect can be locked/unlocked (this is a verizon 8830 issue).

But it appears that the Garmin 5 version uses DATA to get the maps and probably the routing. It also has access to weather and traffic and uses data for that obviously.

There is/was a Garmin product that apparently stored the maps on an SD card and probably did not need DATA.

I think this product is for the lifetime of your device - that is change device and you probably lose your registration but I don't know for sure.

I second FF2. I used Garmin on a trip from Calgary to Utah and back and I noticed that when I happen to be in a location where there is no cell coverage of any kind Garmin does not work. Also, my understanding is that the $99 is a one-time fee good for the life of your device. If you install the trial version and run it for the first time, it will connect to Garmin's servers, ostensibly to retrieve some "settings". I think it logs your device's ESN (that hex thing that's unique to every device, sort of like a NIC's MAC address) so it knows you're using their trial version. I loaded the 7-day trial version, and after two days erased it and reinstalled it from the link provided. It installed fine, but then told me that my trial period ends in 5 days. So, it knows.

I have purchased the GM on Handago indicating that it is being downloaded on an BB8310 and it works fine on the Bold.

There is an updated version 5.0 which could be downloaded however when I try to download the GM 5.0 from Garmin it indicates that the model I am using is not sipported. I know the 5.0 version works on t. Any work around?
