+1. As soon as I can get my hands on one, I'm sure I'll be taking one of these bad boys home.

Question that I have for this unit - Is this good enough to compete with the Iphone which is 3g and offers quite a lot of features? Blackberry devices are superior in many ways but having a device that does not support 3g? I still think Rim will change their mind and put it in 3g....they can't afford to with apple sucking a lot of their market share...

I may be wrong. But I would imagine the Javelin is a little too far along in the production process to "Change Their Minds" and Throw in a 3G Radio. I'm in the boat that I wouldn't mind 3G but I'm seriously jones'ing for a new Berry, was about to pick up a curve, but believe I will hold out for this. My only wish/hope which I'm not sure how it plays out because this will be a "8900" device, is that the handheld itself and the data system are a tweaked a little more for Wi-Fi. Between work and home I am pretty much constantly bombarded by sweet wi-fi goodness and would like to browse a little faster than edge.

Probably not and not very likely.

I just don't get why everything has to compete with the iPhone.

I guess it makes people comfortable with their choice in devices. If I own a BB and I make comparisons saying the BB is better then the iphone because... then I feel better about it. The iphone owner does the same for the same reasons.

I think it's a mind-share thing. The undecided tend to jump on the bandwagon, and if you've got the loudest band and the most colourful confetti, people will buy your stuff just 'cause'. In the consumer space, cool wins, and Apple is particularly cool at the moment.

I give Apple props though, for properly introducing smartphones to the unenlightened masses and for putting touchscreens back into the mobile device spotlight. Everyone uses a mouse on their PC to replicate the 'touchscreen' interface without having to touch the monitor, yet smartphones (vs PDAs) in general have eschewed that interface. Pointing to the object you want to use is far more efficient than navigating to it.

RIM, the Windows Mobile, Symbian and other (Android/Linux/etc) vendors need to respond to Apple's re-introduction of the touchscreen so that they do not appear to be using 'yesterday's interface'.

The key to mind-share is the development community. If the perception is that your device is gaining in popularity, then developers will look to your platform when considering where to produce software.

How much better does this device look compared to the gigantic, ugly Bold device with the cheesy leather battery cover. I don't care if it doesn't have 3G, this is the device I want next.

When I saw the photos from BlackBerryNews, I think I fell for it. So forget 3G for me, I LOVE the Javelin! It's SO HOT!

Thanks Sith!

The problem now is, can I wait that long when the Bold is already around the corner? RIM is killing me...

Better screen, maybe better keyboard, better camera, slimmer profile, GPS/WiFi, twice the ram of Bold, better battery life, what's not to like? I'll hang onto my Pearl if Tmob comes out with this baby. My data is only $20/mo. too. 3g-I don't need no stinking 3g, WiFi's all I need anymore for browsing. Bring it on baby!
