Default 3G hot spot

Please Login to Remove!

I emailed verizon about their 3G hot spot equipment, cost and connection for my laptop when mobile. Much to my supprise, they told me aout using my 9650 as a 3g Hotspot.

But I can't figue out how to turn it on!

There may be NO COST for a wireless connection, compaired as to a teather.

The rep you spoke to was confused.
The BlackBerry 9650 can't be used as a WiFi hotspot.

You can tether it via USB or Bluetooth to your computer if you have the additional $15 tethering plan.

There are NO BBs that can be used as a hotspot yet. Not sure if any are planned but there have been some rumors to that end.

Too bad VZW doesn't know this. For the past few weeks, the option to provision blackberries with the 3G mobile hotspot service has been on the list of things you can add. I manage my employer's devices and have noticed it while making changes and upgrading devices. Not sure why they have it showing.

Provisioning for the Mobile Hotspot is also provisioning for the MBB Connect service. This provissioning is for "both types" of service. Verizon changed the billing for this option and combined them into one so it is $20/2GB and then $20/GB overage. It's actually better pricing than it was previously due to the insane overage charges that could occur.

As far as I know Verizon currently has no plans to enable a 3G Hotspot on any blackberry device. And there are "rumors" but no information on any upcoming blackberry devices to Verizon in the near future. Verizon is concentrating on 4G phones now and Blackberry has none of those at this time nor rumors of any. Even the rumors for the Storm 3 do not include any information on the phone being 4G. Without a 4G phone I doubt Verizon is going to put much stock into adding features to any blackberry unless RIM does it themselves.
