Question Type SMS on PC > USB > BBerry > wireless network?

Please Login to Remove!

Hello

Since it's a lot faster to type short messages on a PC than on a cellphone, even with a QWERTY keyboard like on the BlackBerry, I was wondering if there are utilities that would let users type messages on Windows, send them to the Blackberry through the USB cable, and have the Blackberry send them to the cellular network?

FWIW, I'm using Windows XPSP3 and a BlackBerry 8520.

Thank you.

Just send yourself an email from your PC to your BlackBerry.

Mama: I think what he seeks is a method of efficiency, so sending an email to the BB and then copy & pasting that to a TXT may only benefit him for extremely large txtxxx8217;s , but no gains for smaller ones.

Further, not that this is of any help to the OP, I know you can do this on the Motorola phones xxx8211;Ixxx8217;ve used it personally- but no such tool for the BBxxx8230; where are the BB programmers when you need them?

There is no practical use for something like this. That's why it doesn't exist.

SMS = Short Message Service. With a 160-character limit, if it's too hard to type your SMS message on a BlackBerry with a QWERTY keyboard then perhaps you shouldn't be texting at all. Try the phone feature and actually speak to somebody.

Just use the SMS / Email gateway. Just type an email to the user's phone number. For example [email address] will send the message to that user's device as an SMS.

You can do this from your PC and it should suit the OP's needs.

Very good jsconyers, forgot all about the gateways. Gives validity to my point about texts larger than the base 160 char limit too.

Here's a practical use or two...
Your phone is in your pocket and you get a txt come in while your working at your computer; to save you digging for your phone the txt appears on a little popup with the message and a reply button. You click the button, write your reply and send it; all the while your phone was still in your pocket.

Perfect for when your in a meeting or just don't want your boss to see you're on the phone texting all day!

Sounds dubious to me. "Digging out your BlackBerry" from your pocket? C'mon dude. That's a hassle? You must be wearing some tight pants!

The upcoming "BlackPad" may end up being exactly what you're looking for. It will act as an extension of your BlackBerry.

Thanks for the tip. That's already what I use to send SMS's when I'm in front of my computer, but I'm located in Europe and my new cellphone provider doesn't offer a web interface.

I'll see if I can find another solution.

Thank you.

Hi littlebigman,

try Quicker SMS: wwwDOTjoegeDOTcom/?page_id=45

It should be what you're looking for...just not for free.

Cheers

Why do you need a web interface? Do you mean they don't offer a data plan?

Your original post said you wanted a way to send SMS messages from your computer, then to your BB, then to the cell network. I don't see the dilemma as you say you already do this from your PC. What exactly are you looking for?
