Question BlackBerry Internet Service help, BIS.

Please Login to Remove!

Okay so hello, sorry if I posted in the wrong place, i'm a noob.
I just got an old curve model BB from the internet (Curve 8320), to see what they're like ( iPhone user). The BB is unlocked worldwide and so on, and I've just read something that I didn't know and don't quite understand, it would help if someone could help!

Okay, a few friends have BBs and they all ask if I have BBM and for my pin. Seeing as I now live in a different country as them, it would be a great way to text seeing as BBM is free. Now, I read that to use the BB Browser and the BB Messenger and other apps, I need a BIS or something. I'm not sure what this is.. or how it works. Why do I need one to use BBM & other apps and is it free?

Thanks a lot for your answers in advance!

Wirelessly posted (White and Nerdy)

Bis is blackberry internet service. Its an addon from your carrier just like unlimited texting is. Its just a special data package.

In the us, they usually run about 15-30USD. Not sure in other countries

So does that mean that I have to get this add-on from my network supplier to be able(ALLOWED) to use the BlackBerry branded software?

Yes. You get it from the carrier that provides your cell service. According to your profile, that would be Vodaphone.

Right, thank you all that answered. I guess I'll just have to go to a vodafone shop during the week and see what deals Germany have on their BIS stuff, because their website isn't giving anything like that away.. >:( if not, sticking with iPhone haa.

Dont know if it works the same on that side of the ocean, but....

Have them take off the iphone data part. Add BIS (blackberry data plan).

Then you can use the sim in either phone. When in the blackberry you get all the BBM email etc, and when in the iphone you get internet just like normal. Its what i do myself

Was thinking about doing that, but wasn't sure if they did it.
I will be sure to ask, when I finally get around to the Vodafone Store, thanks!
