Default Remote File Access

Please Login to Remove!

So I followed the steps outlined here:

Administration Guide - BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express for Microsoft Exchange
Configuring access to documents on remote file systems

And setup the BES MDS service to access files on a remote server.

Now on the device itself, how do I view files on the remote network? I have a BOLD 9700 with the latest OS. Assuming also I have done the steps above correctly.

You should have an icon on your device called 'Files'. Use that.

I have, but only the domain admin username / password will work. What do you have to do so a user can use their own username / password?

You need to make sure the permissions and security are properly set on the Windows share.

They definately are setup correctly. Just verified again. Do I need to give BB MDS permission? Or users assigned to a group for BB MDS?

I have the same problem with remote file access. I have 15 besx users, only a few can successfully authenticate. The rest get “Authentication failed”. It is not a file permission or share permission issue.

I got this reply in another forum and it solved the issue.

OK I figured it out... (thanks anyway)

Three things must be true for a bb user to access a network share through "FILES" bb app.

1- Domain User must be in the "Allow log on locally" Windows Local Security Policy

2- Share permission must allow authenticated uses

3- File security DACLs apply to authenticated uses

My problem was that my Local Security Policy did not "Allow log on locally" for normal Domain Users.

If you wanted to disable bb users access to network shares just deny/remove them from "Allow log on locally".
