Default Problems Using 8700c Unlocked on Rogers Network

Please Login to Remove!

Hi there:

I have an unlocked 8700c BB and can't seem to get it to work quite right.

I installed the SIM card from my 7290 BB, synced the 8700c with my desktop manager and everything seems to work (phone, recieve and send emails, address book) with three exceptions:

1) no matter what I do the registration does not seem to complete itself
2) I try to set the time and date, but the 8700c just sets itself
3) the calendar does not sync

I tried changing the time & date settings to Blackberry, Network and None options, but it still seems to have a mind of it's own, setting the time as it wishes.

Someone suggested I replace the Cingular firmware with the Rogers firmware to rectify these issues, but I don't know how to do this.

My questions are:

1) if replacing the firmware is the process I require, how do I do that exactly?
2) if all I need to do is fix the time & date issue, how do I do that?

Thanks,

- Eggs

get the 8700r OS here :

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...C068A355BBA31A

save it to your desk top

then open desk top bb manager and load it to your handheld...takes 20mins

make sure you have saved all you data first

or try setting the correct time zone on your 8700

Default 8700r OS

Thanks, but I am not sure I know how to do this. I am somewhat new to the BB world.

Would you be able to provide me with some more detailed instructions. For instance, I am not sure which OS version to download.

Thanks,

Eggs

Okay...I've downloaded it.

Saved it to my desktop, but how do I install it now?

Is it supposed to just recognize that the file is present and do the install by itself?

Okay, just to confirm:

1) Backup data
2) Lauch BB Desktop Manager
3) Launch Application Loader
4) Browse for and Install 8700r OS I downloaded from the site you directed me to

And this will install the Rogers Firmware on my BB, wiping out all traces of the Cingular Firmware?

Will my BB still be "unlocked" once I make this firmware change, or will I be messing that up?

If there are any warnings or things I should be aware of that set most peoples minds to wonder (e.g. taking too long, screen timing out, etc), can you please let me know.

Thanks again,

- Eggs

I have tried following this procedure.

I backed up the BB
I launched the Desktop Manager
I selected Application Loader

but no applications are listed and I don't know where to find the application for Rogers firmware.

I loaded the application to my desktop and executed it. Is the file located somewhere that I need to browse to using the "Add" feature in the Application loader?

Thanks

The handheld OS and the subsidy/network lock are unrelated.

I have a similar issue.

i unlocked the phone, used my Rogers SIM and then loaded the Rogers software through the desktop manager, no problems.

Then some software glitches came up so I reloaded the software and it worked fine for about 30 hours then back again. So my IT cohort says I'll fix it, and wipes it completely with the java program (made a backup first, of course) and then shows an error 507 (no OS) tried running it through the application loader and no software listed. Tried downloading the latest OS and still nothing.

Went to AT&T got the latest version, and bam it loads right up.

So somewhere deep in the phone it knows to only look for the original providers version. Gonna contact a buddy at RIM to find out whats up.

I hate to state the obvious, but, after you back up your berry, unplug it from the computer and THEN double click the file you downloaded so that it may self install. Then plug in your berry to the computer and open app loader and it will tell you a new version is ready to be installed. there are instructions attached to the sticky at the top on how to install a new software version. hope this helps.

Manually set your Date/Time . . . and set Date/Time Source to "OFF"... and Save . . .
