Thumbs up BIS has upgraded to 2.3

Please Login to Remove!

RIM are updating the BIS servers to 2.3 enabled real time push email with yahoo and gmail. Full reconciliation. At first it was just one way. Its carrier to carrier dependant. Also it enables wireless appointments accept/declines.

Cheers

Hmmm... I never accepted the upgrade from 1.8 to 2.0, because apparently I can't check BIS-account-specific email using a PC over the web, or manage settings, other than via the handheld device? Is this true, and still applicable to 2.3, or am I misreading it? While I like to have handheld access, I also like being able to use the PC as a backup.

Comments?

Wirelessly posted (blackberry pearl: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8100/4.2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

As I understand it from my TMO rep, you will have to physically upgrade the device yourself. When your carrier makes it available,, it should be posted on the OS support page, for whoever your carrier is.
Then you'll have to dl it, and load via DM. Remember, this is per a TMO CSR. So call your carrier to verify.
Btw - I read the article about BIS 2.3 myself in BlackBerry Cool.

Get yourself a GMail account. The SPAM filter is great and GMail can be accessed from any PC or Mac.

BIS upgrades are carrier server-side only. If they do need us to upgrade our OS, it would be 4.2.0.### or something.

Yahoo email works fine for me. Another other reason/advantage to upgrade to BIS 2.3?

You aren't missing anything. The carriers simply have not released it yet.
RIM might have released it, but it hasn't made it's way to the general population yet.

I am with Vodacom (Vodafone South Africa also work for) and we have just upgraded this weekend to 2.3. This was automatic across the BIS accounts, meaning I do not have to upgrade anything on Handheld or be migrated or even remove account and re-create.No Visual difference to the BIS User Site itself, we have been expecting Free Browsing with this upgrade but this is a Carrier specific option, so is not the Rule for the upgrade.

It's working for me, as far as being able to delete from my gmail. I just wish there'd be a way to mark them as read on your Gmail...but then again, I rarely check Gmail on my PC anyway...

Also, I read somewhere that 2.3 lets you open mp3 attachments. Maybe that works with AT&T, but not with my tmobile pearl...
