Not using your 8320, no. But you can use SMS portals from your carrier and other sites. (I know you can on TMo US, not positive about Tmo UK.

Here is a good one from Google.

Is it just me, or does that sentence contradict itself? To paraphrase [Is it possible to compose an SMS message on my computer, using my phone?]

Are you trying to send an SMS message TO your phone FROM your computer? I know on AT&T/Cingular if you send an email to your [email address] it will arrive as an SMS on your phone.

I think the question is... can they compose the message on their PC (using the keyboard and a virtual phone interface) and then transmit it over their cellular service using the phone, tethered to the PC.

Motorola has such an interface called MPT (Mobile Phone Tools) but I don't know of any such equivalent for Blackberry.

Regards,
Charlie

P.S. Sorry to the OP for not offering an answer, but I hope I cleared any ambiguity surrounding your question so that others might offer a solution.

lol, we all three have different takes on his question.

I think, not knowing what he was asking for, he didn't phrase it correctly. I am betting he just wants to send SMS via his PC, and not purely through his BB connection.

I mean to mention also, one can send SMS from many IM applications now, like I do with Pidgin.

Hehe, I know... the only reason I offered a new spin on it was because he talked about using the phone also. If he is anything like me, his fat thumbs will find it very difficult to hit less than 5 buttons at a time.

Selfishly... I would like to know of such a tool that would allow me to tether the BB and then have a virtual device on the monitor. As mentioned I have such for my Moto Razr and similar for my iPAQ PDA. Very handy tools. Any BB developers out there reading this!

My Bluetooth Stowaway Keyboard serves that purpose for me. No need for the PC.

I think it's an excellent question. I could dash off a batch of sms's in one-tenth the time using my PC keyboard compared to using the bb keyboard. The Google sendtophone is OK but I want to send from my bb address book through my phone and have the recipient recognize the message is from my phone #.

There is a OSX app that will do this for several phones, but not the BB. The website says that the BB does not support that feature.

I recently got my Curve after using Nokia phones forever. And I think Jeff phrased his question just fine - I also want to type text messages on my desktop PC and have them sent from my tethered BB! As a matter of fact, I have been doing this on my Nokia phones all day every day for years using PC Suite, which up until now I thought was a pathetic and flawed software package. I just can't believe that it's not possible. We are all busy and can't take the time to reply to an incoming SMS on the BB keypad when it would take 1/10th of the time on the full size keyboard. Someone ought to take this as a challenge!

For that purpose, either get a Bluetooth enabled Keyboard, such as the Stowaway keypad, or the Bayalink product:
Bayalink Solutions Corp.

Thank you, JSanders. I will look into those options - and hope they are not too expensive.

I just read this thread and looked into the Bayalink product. However after visiting Blackberry Messenger and SMS Support in Bayalink Liberty it appears they don't support SMS or plan to. :(
