ok I have looks and searched all over this place and I see people using Googletalk with the 8100 and using it to chat with AIM people etc.. I primarily use Gtalk only and when I went to the download site I noticed that the 8100 is not listed in the specs list as a model being able to use the client... does the 8100 have the ability to use google talk as a stand along IM client for just google talk chatting?

with all the possible permutaions of Gtalk, google talk , googletalk etc.. I cant seem to find the info on why the pearl isnt listed in the list of supported platforms...

Visit www dot blackberry dot com slash GoogleTalk on your Pearl's browser (I'm assuming you have a data plan, since google talk won't work without one), and you will be allowed to download a version of Google Talk for your phone. It works great on the Pearl!

It uses data, not text messages, accesses your google contact list, and works pretty much the same as the desktop client (without voice chat, of course). Even has the same smiley images. ;)

If you set it up to 'auto login', then when people message you, it will even show up in your messages folder as a 'new conversation'.

has anyone seen the error COMMAND FAILED when using gtalk?

I have an 8703e and installed googletalk fine but when i go to login it says username or pwd is invalid. I've confirmed that it's correct and I'm logged into my pc with the same info fine. Then it mentions that I don't have the required service books.

any suggestions?

Yes. This seems to be related to the Transports you are using having some issues. At least that is when I see it. Typically, this clears up, sometimes longer than others. You can always try changing your Transports when you are seeing this happen.

I'm still not able to download it to my Pearl 8100. Whenever i try to download the application VIA the BB it says it does not support this version of the blackberry. How are all these other people getting it on there Blackberrys. Please tell me the secret.
