You replace the ALX file with the one made by Jibi and delet the vendor file, once loaded you will see more themes appear. One thing, I noticed that the likes of oprange and Voda (at least for my Cingular one) the media net browser Icon can not be seen any where in those themes. i have not tired to see if it is the same in the T mobile ones or the rest. I stteled on the Today Plus but I would love to have the Orange theme active and see the media net icon.
T Mobile versions are good with media net

Sure! (just a reminder, these are tested via http://speakeasy.com/speedtest using 4.2.0.71, tethered via BT to XP SP2)
New York: 127kbps/27kpbs
Seattle: 137kbps/28kbps
Atlanta: 128kbps/32kbps
Not too shabby.

I don't mean to sound rude, but next to sitting there with you walking you through the steps, Jibi's instructions are pretty much the most straight forward you'll get.
This is taken directly from Jibi's ALX thread: http://www.blackberryforums.com/ring...-4-2-only.html

1 - Do your normal Backup, if you choose to not lose everything in the process (I will assume you are familiar with the process if you've chosen to move on forward with Step 1, so I won't elaborate any further).
2 - Download and Install the latest OS version for your handheld (if my list is NOT updated, then do NOT use the BlackBerry.alx file I have provided - a simple PM to me with a note concerning the updated version will be sufficient for me to update my listings above). The download URL is provided above under each device/series, listed as Installation Download.
3 - Delete the Vendor.xml file from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader (this needs to be done AFTER Step 2, although that should not need to be stated).
4 - Rename the BlackBerry.alx file located in your Installation Path (see above for full path name; varies for each handheld software installation).
5 - Download and extract the BlackBerry.alx file from the associated ZIP file for your handheld. This is listed above as BlackBerry.alx Download.
6 - Open Desktop Software 4.1 and upgrade/update your handheld.

cool thanks, neat to know. It's interesting to see how RIM builds it's devices/firmware releases compared to Nokia and Motorola, kinda different. If I'm not mistaken it's some sort of unix-y boot rom, but everything else that runs a BB is J2ME based. Impressive.

one substancial fix i have noticed is that there is no longer a lag when playing an mp3 or sound file. I just click the file and it opens... no more waiitng 1-2 seconds...
also not sure if we were able to alter the cache of the media function but i maxed out all the memory from 20 to 25 megs and the other one from 10 to 12 megs...
Speed is alittle faster.. but phantom theme is still a dog with an hour glass.

Why does the T-Mobile section still show 4.2.0.53/4.2.0.42 when v4.2.0.64 is out? I apologize in advance if this has already been discussed elsewhere here as I could not find it and am a new to this forum.

It's probably good that they do, since some don't like the loss of disabling the screen autodim feature. Keeping .42 lets them go back.

Berry411 broken?
I loaded this software and berry411 no longer works - it doesn't even launch. Deleted and reloaded - same result.
Can anyone confirm?

This upgrade does not allow you to turn off Auto Brightness. Thanks RIM

Film at 11. EVERY upgrade since the original version (4.2.0.42) has disabled this. Clearly it is NOT a problem at RIM since several updates have come out without it!

Upgrading and BES
I was wondering if there is a way to upgrade the OS without having to Re-Activate the BES account?
I just upgraded to .71 but now I have the Suitcase back on the main screen and I am not hooked up with my company's BES. Of course, it is a weekend and the IT people aren't around to give me the activation password so I am stuck without email (a blessing? ha).
Just curious if y'all have found that each time you upgrade the OS that you have to re-activate the BES account?
Thanks for the help.
BTW, the instructions on how to upgrade here are phenomenal. Just walked through the steps and I am no IT manager.
For background, I am on Cingular and was upgrading the Cingular software. I did delete the vendor.xml file and am wondering if I shouldn't have since I was upgrading a cingular pearl with new cingular software.

Just did the upgrade, and it worked fine.
Only problem is, now my browser won't work.
I resent the service books, and reregistered, but I still got nothing!!
Anyone else having this problem??
