Default Connecting BB 8820 to secure wireless network

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All,

First of all, great forum! Its rare to see such varied discussions on a single forum, amazing guys!

I have recently bought BB 8820. I have not subscribed any data plan, and my sim is working fine. I am able to place and receive calls, sms.

I have a wireless network at work, I am able to connect to it, it uses a pre-shared key, Once connected, the connection manager shows yellow sign against the Wi-Fi connection. I can see that it has obtained a valid IP, but I am not able to browse internet!

Can someone point me to any particular settings/changes that needs to be done in this case? Will be really helpfull!

Thanks in advance!

Do you have a Blackberry data plan? Have you tried using the Hotspot Browser?

Without knowing what kind of security your Work's Wi-Fi uses, it's impossible to tell you what to do that will work. I will tell you that my company's WiFi requires (Active Directory) authentication, and here's how I set it up:

BODY { SCROLLBAR-HIGHLIGHT-COLOR: #cecfce; SCROLLBAR-ARROW-COLOR: #010101; SCROLLBAR-TRACK-COLOR: #fffbff; SCROLLBAR-DARKSHADOW-COLOR: #fafafa; SCROLLBAR-BASE-COLOR: #f7f7f7 }
  1. On the BlackBerry, select Set Up Wi-Fi which should be under Setup from the Home Screen
  2. An Introductory screen may follow - simply proceed and when asked, select Manually Add Network and use the following settings:
    1. SSID:(Your Work SSID)
    2. Security Type: PEAP
    3. User name: (domain\username)
    4. User password: (Domain password)
    5. CA certificate: VeriSign Class 3 Root (G2)
    6. Inner link security: EAP-MS-CHAP v2
    7. Token: <None selected>
    8. Server subject:
    9. Server SAN:
    10. Check Automatically obtain IP address and DNS
    11. Check Allow inter-access point handover
    12. (your choice) Prompt before connection
Give it a try. Worst case, you won't get connected!

Without blackberry Data Plan "yellow sign" is all you can get.

Your device should have WiFi browser or HotSpot browser under Browser configuration settings. Make it default and you'll be able to browse Internet without data plan, as long as your 8820 connected to your home WiFi network and obtained an IP address from it.
