Default How do you dial letters from keypad?

Please Login to Remove!

For example if I wanted to call 1-800-Jet-Blue or something like that, how do I dial the #'s from those letters to come up?

thanks!

Hold down your ALT key and then multi-tap the keyboard to get the letter you want.

For 1-800-Jet-Blue you'd dial 1800 ALT(JK) ALT(ER) ALT(TY)....etc. You will actually see 1800JETBLUE on the device. The device will then translate the letter for the appropriate digit.

yeah, that works. the problem is when you're on a call, dealing with an automated attendant, and it asks you to spell something on your keypad, such as the last name of the person you wish to be transfered to. this happens to me quite frequently.

i think the only way around this right now is to either memorize which keys are which letters on a standard phone, or to have a picture of a standard keypad handy. for that reason, i keep a jpg of a standard keypad on the pearl.

I installed a little freebie program called SPELL N DIAL. I don't know exactly where I got it, but I'm sure you can Google it.

Why would you need a program since this feature (hold down ALT and press the letter) is part of every BlackBerry and the usage is included in the online help system?

On the "automated attendant" post above, with version 4.2.107, when you dial while on a call, my Pearl gives me double letters. Someone said that this version (107 from TMobile) fixed taht, but I still have the prob....

Thanks! I didnt know how to do the letter dialing either.

I was messing around with it, and if you hold the alt key, you can double tap to the second letter. Not sure if that was the 'fix' or not, but it works. Im on 4.2.1.107

If you're already on 107 I doubt it will be any better than what you already have.

Saves me an hour....

This is really frustrating to get to VM, especially after hrs, when there is no human, and you just get slapped around, because you can't dial SMITH, It comes out as SSMMIITTHH, and dies...

Default Double Letter Problem

In case anyone is still having this problem...

I had the double letter problem when trying to type letters in a phone number (i.e. 1-800-HOMEDEPOT). I have the Blackberry Pearl 8100 with ATT and was using OS 4.2.1.96. I tried to get a fix through ATT and they were absolutely NO HELP. I just upgraded to 4.2.1.109, and I finally do not have the problem anymore!

The issue is still there, just not as bad. If you want it to be gone completely, upgrade to OS 4.5.
