After all the years and all the upgrades this was by far the fastest, easiest best experience of them all.

Man this Bold flew along on this upgrade! Holy crap......

Tom thanks for posting!

Hopefully it will fix some of the quirks I experienced, like the one that I was getting when the cursor would stop shy of the box I needed to type in and make me actually circle around it, lol.....

Well now I'm off to re-log into all the site I access on my BB.....Hey, maybe it should save all the cookies .

Oh and the XM icon is back after the upgrade.

Upgraded without incident, and with some removal of unwanted java modules it had over 50M free when complete.

A.
It was desktop manager 4.6. Everything was going fine with the install and then the connection was lost. Have tried to roll it back, but can't. The PC will recognise the blackberry, however when it tries to connect and start the roll back it wont cause it can't connect to the blackberry.

Still on the blank white screen with serveral lines running across it.

Just red the top of this sticky thread it explains it very clearly.

You need to delete the "Vendor.xml" file from your PC and then reload the Desktop Manager.

That's the problem, there are about 12 XML files, and none that identify ATT or vendor.
There is:
cnfigurableupgrade.xml
device_tblinfo1033.xml
(6)tbinfo.xml
tbinfoWM50.xml
and userguide.xml

Well then you should be fine if Vendor.xml is not located in that directory.

You mean there is actually a file named "vendor.xml"? I thought I was looking for ATT something.
OK, doing a search of my entire c drive, including hidden files, I have no "vendor.xml"

Maybe I'll just have to wait until ATT releases 185

Has anyone notice that when you do an OS upgrade a lot of the settings for profiles gets reset! For example, for my 4 email accounts, many of the Ring Tone settings for my different profiles were changed after the OS upgrade. Argh!

Go to the SPECIFIC directory listed in the top of the thread...it points you exactly where you will find the file and the physical name is vendor.xml .

If you installed the new OS exe, then I guarantee you that file is there in that directory.

You are a genius....well maybe I found it, just like you said, however, I cannot delete the d*%@# thing. It keeps replacing it with a shadow copy, even renamed it, etc. arrrgh! When I delete it, start up DM, it does ask if I want to update, but then after DM searches, it say "no update needed, and doesn't allow me to go further. I have 167 on the BB now.

Any other ideas?

Question:
How do I prevent the Blackberry Desktop Manager from downgrading my handheld software?

Answer:
If Documents To Go has only been downloaded and installed to the BlackBerry phone, and the Desktop Manager software on your computer contains an older version, connecting and synchronizing the BlackBerry with the computer may cause the handheld to be overwritten with the older version of Documents To Go. The following steps will prevent this from happening:

Close the BlackBerry Desktop Manager if it is running
Browse to the following location on your computer:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\"device software"\

NOTE: The "device software" folder typically has the model number of the phone in its name (e.g. 8800, 8100, etc).

Inside the "device software" folder, locate the file called DocumentsToGo.alx
Rename this file to DocumentsToGo.old
Launch the BlackBerry Desktop Manager
Open the Application Loader and sync your phone
You should no longer be prompted to downgrade Documents To Go during the desktop sync.
Thanks, it's been driving me crazy, but no more

I upgraded to this version, and I can't even activate on BES. I am downgrading back to the factory version.

This OS will load to ANY carrier's 9000 model by following the instructions below.
(Multilanguage version)

Details
Name: BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.6.0.326 (Multilanguage)
File Name: 9000M_PBr4.6.0_rel326_PL4.0.0.169_A4.6.0.185_TIM_I taly.exe
Download Size: 93.466 Mb
Language: English
Published Date: 11/11/2008

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...190CAAD5802983

1. Make sure you have Desktop Manager 4.6 installed. Older versions will load the OS but may not be full compatible with all the memory of the Bold. You can get DM 4.6 here:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22
2. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

To find the previous OS version for the 9000 Bold, click here:

I upgraded mine to this, and most of the previous versions and had no issues reactivating. I did however have one Bold for someone else go weird with .167, but wiping it and activating it again fixed that. A failed activation is most often either a connection issue or BES problems that cause the handset to have problems.

I've done this thousands of times with no incident. The BES is fine. The handset has connectivity. I don't understand where the issue would have been.

It's also never asked me for the activation server address before.

The message is going to the inbox in Outlook but the Blackberry isn't seeing it. I re-installed it again. I really dont' feel like downgrading but if someone doesn't have a reasonable explanation ill be spending another hour just to downgrade.

I'm just going to downgrade because now my BES service provider is telling me I need to contact my wireless carrier. Alot of people are having issues with this version on Crackberry.com and seeing as how this is the first time this has happened to me, and I have re-installed it three seperate times, imo, its a software issue.
