Exclamation Tethering the 7250 on Verizon - Cost?

Please Login to Remove!

Believe me, I have been all over this forum looking for this specific answer and haven't found it, but need one as soon as possible.

I'm looking for any experiences VZW customers have had tethering their laptop/PC using their EVDO-enabled 7250. My BB has had EVDO access since it was first released (secretly, I think) but I have never tried to use it to tether my laptop until recently. And it worked beautifully! My question is whether or not anybody has had negative issues with VZW and their bill when tethering. I know from the VZW website that using the BB in this way is not supposed to be covered in the unlimited data plan, but I'm looking for the REAL story.

Any info would be appreciated!!

I believe it is an additional $15/mo.

For the tethering or for adding the EVDO access to the device? My understanding is that in some markets there was a $15 cost to enable the EVDO access on their device, no cost in others. I happened to be in a no-cost area.

Any others?

In Dallas area: $15 on top of your data plan cost. Unlimited data plan is $45.

Unhappy Cost?

I've looked all over the verizon web site, and I can't find the option, do you have to call Verizon to set this up?

Thanks for the info.

Have had recent experience with this, it is an additional $15 to teather your BB. Unfortunately, this is above and beyond the unlimited plan price of $45.

Can you get away without paying the $15 by using it sparingly?

You will then be charged per kilobyte and that can accumulate in a hurry without you realizing it, but yes you can.

I assume you mean you will be charged per kilobyte only for the data used during tethering, correct?

I have to agree with the earlier post, I have been all over that damn VZW website and can find no definition of the tethering option, however, when you read the fine print under the unlimited BB data plan, it does reference the addition of a tethering option to your plan.

So, and correct me if I'm wrong, to be able to tether to my laptop without a care in the world of some ungodly bill being sprung on my, I need to call VZW and have a $15 tethering feature added to my account which is above and beyond the $44.99 I currently pay for unlimited data, correct?

Believe it or not, that's worth it to me if that is in fact the case.

You are correct the kilobyte charge is per data used while tethering, my fear is, who is to say that you do not wind up getting charged for non tethering data in the tethering data, the problems alone would be inmense. So if you do need to tether a lot then by all means add the $15 dollar plan to the $44.99 plan and you should be all set. However a caveat, there was talk about the fact that the $15 was an introductory price that later was to be changed to $30 a month, what was never clear was wether the people who started at $15 would also be increased whn and if it did increase to $30.

I have the 7250 and added tethering for the extra $15 - my data plan is $40 unlimited data and it really works well. I use about 100+mb a month via my laptop and don't get charged extra.

F***, I hate having to go through VZW customer service for this kind of stuff. I guess I can look forward to a lot of escalating and calling right back to get someone with an ounce of information...

And I assume you have service with VZW. Do they call it anything other than tethering? This girl is clueless...

Yup, call the data technical support because the voice side is not familiar with this at all. They were trying to offer me features I already had. The lady I spoke with called the feature BlackBerry Connect, it costs an additional $15, and can be added/removed whenever (no contract).

Thanks for all the help guys! I really needed it and BBF came through.
