Default 8703e Questions

Please Login to Remove!

I recently won a bid on ebay for a BlackBerry 8703e. I am an assistant principal and need the email/internet capability that the blackberry provides.

My questions are: About what will I be paying in order to have unlimited internet/email access? Also, do I have to pay more to use it as a tethered modem for my laptop? If so, how much? Finally, for those 8703e users, what helpful hints/advice can you give this first time blackberry user?

Thanks so much for your help!

Welcome to BBF Tillman! You will just need to get the BB data plan and you should be able to get the most out of your BB. Let's just wait for some VZW subscribers to help you out with the other questions involving charges. Or you can also take a look at the FAQ, it's on top of this box, 4th link from the left. And yes, you can use this as a modem!

I just switched back to my 8703e. Beyond my voice plan, I pay $29.99 for unlimited email/web, plus a text messaging package. To tether, the data plan goes up to approx. $60. I haven't justified needing to tether.

I suggest you read the FAQ, especially the section on buying a used BB on eBay. Might save you some grief and answer many of your questions as well. Buying a used BB isn't like buying a used cell phone.

I am a school admin as well. The device is indispensable.

On Verizon the price plan for unlimited data/email is $29.99. If you use it as a tethered modem, you then have to subscribe to the BES data plan, which is $44.95 (unlimited still) and then $15 for tethering, so yes $60 is correct.

Yes that is a good point. Its no longer a cap really though. Now after 5Gb the charge you $.49/Mb after 5Gb. They have an updated version of the VZ Access manager now that allows you to easily track your usage for the month now.

So Verizon's definition of "unlimited" is 5gb. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that limited to 5gb??? They also charge $15 per month for tethering. They never stop trying to squeeze the most money out of their customers.

This is true, but tethering is not meant to be your primary means of internet access, and under normal use most people wont use 5Gb/mo, unless the view a lot of streaming content.
