I did see the option to select public contact folders in the Web Desktop Manager. However, I was unable to select any folders. I need to investigate further. But I am sure it will work.

BES 5.0 has the capability to do that but it also requires 5.0 HH software which isn't released.

To specify the location of the public contact folders go to the following:

Left-hand panel of BAS --

Servers and Components
--Blackberry Solution topology
----Blackberry Domain
-------Component View
----------Email

once you click on email you'll see the public folder listing in the right-hand frame. Then proceed to click "Edit Component" and you can select which you'd like to have available to the users.

Hope that helps.

Hi,

can you tell me, which rights should have the user BESAdmin for public folders or is it okay, when you give the rights for the chosen folder with the appropiate contacts?

I did this on the BAS but when the users go to web desktop manager they still don't see the public contacts to chose to sync to. Must be missing a step.

The same thing here,
Must be something with permissions to the public folder and its storage.
I did everything to give the besadmin every access permissions to the public folder storage (complete access to the container and all rights on the "contacts" folder )
still does not show up (not in the BAS web-app or the Web-Desktop for the user )
I use a BB 9000, SW 5.0.0.100.

See here:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/bes-...rmissions.html

about the error message which is logged periodically. When you lookup this Mapi error, it means: incorrect user or password.

Ok, solved for me:
My BES only made the folder avilible for the users, when I assigned the besadmin account level 8 permissions on the folder ( using outlook ).
After that, the folder finally showed up in the BAS application under the user. However, I could not select it.
Selecting the folder as a public contact folder worked only from the webdesktop application.
Immediately after this the public folder appeared also on the device.

This should be documented somewhere - I tried to read all availible docs, but this was not mentiond.

Well here is the problem:

First I went into the BAS and under Blackberry Solution Topology -> Blackberry Domain -> Component View, Click on Email.
Then Click Edit component and click on the public contact folder you want to be published. Save it.

So now in theory my public folder is published as far as the server is concerned...

Now go to manager users, click on a user.
Under the Messaging Configuration area I see one "Default Configuration". I click on that.
Then the "Email" tab on the right.
Then under the "Published public contact folders" is simply None Defined.

How do I get them defined there? that is where I need it checked so that i can setup the users to sync to it.

hI,

I have recently upgraded my handheld to version 5.0.0.190 (8900) and together with my BES version 5 MR1 i m trying to synch my BB with e-mail public folders. i ve followed the instructions on Administration Guide, but when going to 'Redirection settings' i only get the option to redirect my personal mailbox folders. i confirm that besadmin is 'owner' on all of my public folders.

my environment is:

windows 2008 64 bit

Exchange 2007 SP1 (on a different machine)

MAPI and CDO version 6.5.8069.0

what am i doing wrong?

any guidance will be appreciated.

using outlook, as the administrator,
create a public folder of type contact,
make besadmin the owner of this folder, or modify an existing folder and give besadmin owner rights.

then, login to the BES Administration:
https://your.bes.server/webconsole/app
or
http://your.bes.server:18180/webconsole/app
login with your admin credentials

open server and components,
blackberry solution topology
Blackberry domain
component view
email

you should see:
"published public contact folder"
and there your public contact folder(s)

if possible, check the folders you want to sync to your Blackberries

logout

then, login as the user:
(use your windows logon credentials)
http://your.bes.server:18180/webdesktop/

left, there is a menu entry "Contact Folders"
klick there, if everything is setup ok you now can choose to redirect the public folders of your choice.

I forgot: you have to restart the blackberry server after chaninging the public folder permissions,
Otherwise it will not work, or you only will be able to see the folder, but, contacts will not be synced

This thread is about "bes 5 public contacts sync?", therefore, I simply did not read your post thoroughly.
AFAIK, public folder sync is only possible for contact folders, not for email enabled folders. Someone else please correct me, if I am wrong.

Default response.

When I read the Manual for the 5.0 Server, I also first thought, Support for public folders meant any public folder, however, when you look in the management console, it clearly says "choose a public contact folder".

also, look here:
BlackBerry - Enterprise Server Compare - Microsoft Exchange - IBM Lotus Domino
---
Quote:
Synchronization of public and private contacts
Synchronization of Multiple Contact Folders
---
No word about public folders containing Emails.

Indeed, i ve seen it.

to be honest, its not yet clear to me if the combination BES 5/device software 5 supports mail public folder synchronization. i suppose the only thing i can do is wait till device software v 5 is officially released.

right. I hope, it wont take ages.

also, public contacts are read-only. I havent managed to add a contact to public conctacts.
And, regarding the other new features:
remote file acess: I am unable to copy anything from a remote folder to the device
support for attachments in appointments: yes, but I cannot make an appointment on the BB and attach something to it - this is the main reason I made the upgrade to V5. If this feature stays as it currently is, that would be sad.
