Default Bedside mode- can you set this to Phone only?

Please Login to Remove!

When I travel I would love to use this new bedside mode but I need to have my phone on for contact to home. There is an option to turn of the radio but that shuts down everything. Any way to set this so that if I get a phone call it will ring but emails will stay silent?

Thanks,
JP

No. Its all or nothing. You can set up a profile that mutes everything but the phone and switch to that when you are sleeping. Thats what I do.

If I am in that profile, which I use by the way, of "phone only" can I still go into bedside mode? I want the clock on, alarm on, phone on and everything else off.

Yeah the Phone Only profile is what you want. Go into setup to make sure that everything but the phone is muted.

I am a pretty big fan, cannot put it in words but it was alot of fun. I watch every game and enjoy talking about the Phils with my Dad and it was terrific for my 72 yr old Father in law who listens (does not watch) to every game. I was at games 3, 5 and 5 1/2 and it was the greatest. My boys are spoiled now though as I was in the 70s and early 80s . Oh well maybe they will have a better next 28 years of phandom than I did.

I am a 4 for 4 Philly sports fan so this has been fun( until the Birds last night).

By the way - the Phone only theme and bedside mode works as I want- nothing but the phone works and the bedside them is still active.

If you really want to, go into Mobile Network Options and turn off data services. It will allow you to still get phone calls but no emails, BBMs, etc.

johnfromphilly, that's the mode I use when my husband is on graveyard shifts ... I leave my phone on the kitchen counter all other times but when he's gone I put it on phone only so I can sleep but hear the phone ring if there's an emergency.

Ain't Berries great?

Yes they are. I have not had to give my wife a hotel phone # since I got my BB. She can always reach me on the cell but no emails thru the night. And now we get the cool clock too. I ordered the holder to keep it upright by the bed too.

I would have loved it if when it entered into bedside mode you had the option to switch to a certain profile. I hate manually doing stuff because in the morning I forget to turn my alerts back on. are you listening RIM??? Why don't you ask real users of your devices to add features. I would love to see this added by a 3rd party app. as well it should be able to tell if its USB charging or desktop holder charging.

I just found a little shortcut that might help. Instead of changing your phone to phone only mode you can press and hold the Q key to enable vibrate profile. If you are like me i never use the vibrate profile and you can make the phone ring on that setting. This when when you go to bed you can press and hold Q to enable quite mode throw it in the charging station. When you wake up you can press and hold Q again to put back to the old profile it was on. again not the solution but a fast work around.

You can also use a profile scheduler application (such as Profiler -- see the 3rd party forums for more info) to handle automatic profile changes for you. For example, every night from 12:01 am to 6:00 am, the phone goes to Vibrate (you could go to Phone Only instead) and returns to Normal profile at 6:00 am, regardless of whether it is in Bedside Mode or not.

The advantage of this is that even if you forgot to plug the phone in, it will still be in Phone Only mode (or in my case, Vibrate) at night, AND be back to Normal or whatnot in the mornings.

This is exactly what I need!!! I've needed this feature since my 7290 days!!! I could use something like BBLight, except it would change the profiles.

Here is why I need it...

I keep my phone on vibrate. It stays on my person, so I can feel it vibrate. But, when I plug it in (like in my car or at my desk) I can't feel the vibration and need to hear a ring.

This would really help. I was hoping bedside mode would help.

RIM (or 3rd party developer) are you listening???!?

Well I'm starting to develop for the Bold to see how hard it really is and I think this will be the first application. Problem is that you cant replace their application with your own you have to make an addon so a second program that will be triggered on bedside mode entered or charging and switch the profile to X. Can't be that hard I would not imagine.

I have not yet figured out what Bedside Mode actually does except to dim the brightness of the screen.
The profile you have selected is what you get. So if you did not change from "Loud" you will be awaken by your BB just about the time you doze off into REM sleep--lol.

That is why I use a 3rd party application to change my profiles depending on the time of day (or in this case, night). Works whether it's in Bedside Mode or not.

Does the clock stay on in a dimmed state such as a bed side clock?

No. That's why I don't understand bedside mode other than when you pick up your BB in the middle of the night any button brings back the dimmed clock. But I'm on a BES and our IT policy locks the BB so you have to unlock it (enter your password) before you see the clock--so pretty useless to me but I can see it's usefulleness to a non BES user.
