Call Log > Options > General Options > Dial From Home Screen = Off

Then the K key will lock your device.

Wow, thanks so much for the prompt replies guys. Really appreciate.

To jsconyers, does that mean there's no way to asign other key than "k"
to do the key lock.

Can you also explain some on key stores? Thanks in advance.

Wirelessly posted (Boostberry 7100i)

Try holding in the asterisk key. This works for the 7100i.

That's only for SureType devices, IIRC. Holding A/* on full qwerty BB's will assign a speed dial to the key.

Default Interesting...8900 .168 Tmobile here

Holding down A or * does lock the keys.
Alt - Enter does lock the keys
or just push the soft button at the top...LOVE IT.

Holding down the Q switches between vibrate and normal profile

If you turn off dialing from Home Screen you can still use the speed dial. Just hold the key down instead of just pressing it. Gives the keys double functions.

INteresting I'm wondering if its a new feature on the 8900. I have a 8320 also and when I press Q it asks to assign a speed dial.
