I live in the Dominican Republic and i have an unlocked 9550 works well with all the carriers but i put one of my friends sim in it to try the 3g but works with each but could access the 3g help

AFAIK, you can only get EDGE service on the GSM side of the 9550. It is 3G (EVDO) using CDMA, but doesn't have the GSM 3G frequencies.
