Default Only getting one-way wireless synch (BES)

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, fantastic site btw.. I'm a new BES admin, and hope to contribute a lot in the future.

Our BES has been operational for a couple of weeks now. I may be delusional, but when i first tested the features i'm sure i had 2-way synch.

ie.. i could create/delete mail items/calendar entiries on my outlook client and the changes would be replicated on the handheld (and vice versa) *without having to connect via USB lead.

Now it seems that it only works one-way (from the handheld) Any changes made from the Outlook client arent replicating until the handheld is docked. (this really sucks as the CheifExec, Chair etc all have PAs who edit thier calendars)

Afffecting all users. CDO versions on BES & Exchange are correct. Wireless synch (apparently) enabled. Have stopped started services, re-added users etc... could somebody put me out of my misery!?

BES documentation is AWFUL.. so vague and ambiguous. I'm finding it hard to get a definitive answer as to whether true 2-way synch is even possible!

Is the CDO.DLL version on BES and Exchange the same? Which version of BES and Exchange are you using? Also which service packs are installed (Win-OS, Exchange & BES)?

Report the version number of

CDO.DLL on BES (located in Winnt\system32)
MAPI32.DLL on BES (located in Winnt\system32)

and

CDO.DLL on Exchange (located in Exchsrvr\bin)
MAPI32.DLL on Exchange (located in Exchsrvr\bin)

Did you try to Hard reset the handheld?

Also when you create an appointment in Outlook does the users pending to handheld number increase?

Right click on the user and goto user stats. create a new appointment in Outlook and check these stats to see if the pending/filtered/forwarded is increasing.

You cant say CDO is the same as say its not a problem.

If its Exchange 2000, there is an April Post SP3 rollup which RIM reccomends you never install on the BES as there is known issues with that roll-up (for instance Microsoft has pulled it from their website because of the problem is can cause in Exchange)

I Dont have access to either system at the moment.

But I know for a fact:

CDO version 5.5.2655.79 (BES & Exchange)
MAPI32.dll (Not the one from Outlook) * not installed on either server

I tried a reset with a pin in the battery compartment - not sure if that is hard or soft!

So.. 2 way synch is possible without docking?

No 'pending' shown on console, although i do have lots of 'filtered' - BES support told me that would be mail from distribution lists etc

Pending shoud be increasing and optimally atleast one forwarded number for each appointment the user creates or gets invited to, can you try this for me?

Backup the handheld.

Open Desktop Manager and go into Backup/restore, click advanced.

clear the calendar handheld database.

now close backup/restore.

Open Intellisync, Configure PIM.. set the calendar translator to MSOutlook. click ok and sync through the wire

Now co back into Configure PIM and set the calendar translator back to BlackBerry Wireless Sync

Sync one last time.

test.

This will reset the reference ID's of the calendar and setup the wireless calendar as if from scratch.

Let me know if that works. Yes two way full wireless sync is defenitely possible, I have it working on all my employers company BES servers

Two way synch is def working on my blackberry, so can rule out any permissions / version problems.

All the other users are happy as far as i can tell (only 5 at the moment) -Except for the Chairman -who is very pissed- that when his PA deletes a message from his INBOX , the change is not reconciled. Typical eh!

I've seen the problem with my own eyes, the mails arent being deleted from the 'deleted items' folder either... looks like i'll have to try him with an alternative handheld.

Thanks for all your help

Have you tried going into the message list, pushing the wheel in, going to the options and under the DESKTOP heading change the DELETE ON: setting to wireless and handheld. Then any deletions made on the desktop or the handheld will be synched

I’m having the opposite problem.
I’m using BES 4.0 with Exchange 2003 SP2.
When my users create Calendar and Tasks items on their handhelds they do not synch with Outlook.
