Default Upgrading OS on BES

Please Login to Remove!

hey everyone,
im not exactly sure if this is possible, but is there anyway to upgrade the OS without going to the admin to do? I would really like to get OS 6 on my bold but i would rather not go to the admin and have to deal with losing my blackberry.

Thanks,
Andrew

Upgrading Os will remove the BES activation from your device, and you'll have to get a new details to activate it again.

You do not need to go to your admin to upgrade the OS on your Blackberry. For that matter you do not even need to go to them when switching Blackberries (upgrading the OS on the Bb may be effectively switching the device).

If you have Blackberry Desktop Manager configured correctly (ideally on the same computer that you use to access your office email) you can upgrade the OS, and when the upgrade is complete the Blackberry will re-initiate the BES Enterprise activation.

Sorry MidnightDraven, the first part of your answer is correct, the second part is not.

On a separate note though, it depends on your IT policy and how strict it is. By upgrading the OS you may inadvertently violate it.

Not exactly - with the DM installed and connected to the BES, it's totally doable.

It will depend on the IT policy as to whether the device can be OS upgraded or not, but if the policy hasn't got that feature disabled, he can upgrade without the BESADMIN - and restore all data as well.

I am one of the admins for our BES and even I don't bother doing an OTA Enterprise activation, as it would require someone to enter a password on the BES; I simply wipe/activate and restore from the DM. Easiest way to get the job done. You can even change devices from the DM, if the IT policy permits...I do it all the time on mine.

If this is a company provided BB and they pay the bills, you should think twice before you try to circumvent the IT Policy and your BES Admin, especially if you value your job.
