8800 Crimson for Verizon
Please Login to Remove!
So I just got my 8703e (got rid of my POS suretype 7130e) and already can't wait for the 8800 Crimson. I love the new 8703e but Any idea when the 8800 Crimson might be out for Verizon???? Mabee the BG could shed some light on this. I know it will go gsm first then CDMA.

Like all VZ releases - a year after everyone else. I really don't understand why they have the following they do these days other than amusing commercials. They have a great US network that can't be used in Europe but Cingular has both. They get hardware a year late. Curious why they are so loved.

Verizons network is the only good thing about them! They lack in the technology department, and the billing sucks too. But I never drop calls, and have no issues with reception

the newly revamped bill for this month isn't too bad.. makes things a bit clearer... though they did charge me 10 cents for every text i sent this month because when i got my 8703e someone forgot to add back my text messaging plan..

Except for Blackberry devices, this statement is far from true. VZW got the RAZR V3m (the one with expandable memory and a 1.23MP camera) before Cingular got the V3i (similar phone, only with iTunes); they were the first with the Treo 700p and 700w; they are currently the only one with the Motorola Q; they are the first American carrier with a 3.2MP camera phone (the Samsung A990) and the KRZR. They are also the only American carrier with the LG Chocolate. They will soon have the Motorola SLVR, the LG Chocolate (flip), an update LG "V," and they will likely get the RAZR Maxx before any American carrier. As a CDMA carrier, they get the Blackberry devices before Sprint does, so I am not sure why you say they are always last.

...while that maybe the case, your statement did not make that clear. You did say all VZW releases.

Plus their plans are so damn expensive. I bet Bill gates would cry from that cell phone bill. I have two phones and two cell phone plans, and it's still cheaper than the vzw $109 plan. I can't see why anybody would stay with their company.

I'm paying $90 per month total for my T-Mobile service. That's 1000 minutes shared between 3 phones (my 'Berry, daughter's phone, son's phone) with free nights/weekends. Included is the $20 for unlimited Blackberry BIS for me. All in all, not too bad.

I thought the new Blackberry 8800 Crimson was an EDGE Network phone...and is Verizon not EVDO? Perhaps they will be producing two different 8800 Crimson's for both EDGE and EVDO?

The main reason to use Verizon is quite simply, to borrow their cliche from their commercials, their network. Verizon is the one carrier that it seems like you can go pretty much anywhere in the US and have your cell connection work. I've gone to more rural areas in the Southeast and the only one that works is Verizon. I live in Florida, and the one carrier that worked during the hurricanes during past years was Verizon. The damn thing just works.
Granted, Verizon is pricey, and GSM is a more worldwide standard, but the bottom line is that Verizon works in the US better than any other carrier. That's why Verizon has the lowest churn rate among US carriers, and is adding customers at a faster pace than any other US carrier. If current trends keep up, Verizon will eventually surpass Cingular for most customers in the US, although Cingular certainly is doing well by their own right.

The previous poster, Thought, pretty much said it perfectly. Verizon is expensive and has crappy phones. But if you need to make a call with 99% success Verizon is the only choice. I've had sprint, cingular and now t-mobile.
Without talking about them all, I can say Thought is correct. I live in Los Angeles/Hollyood and travel all over southern CA - and all companies here but Verizon will have areas of poor reception.

I will have to change Carriers to get the EDGE version of the 8800, but that is no big deal. I was just wondering where you heard or read that RIM was going to produce both the GSM and CDMA version of the 8800?

I'm in central florida and moved to Verizon because I couldn't avoid 3 to 4 drops a day with Cingular. I depend ont voice. I also wanted evdo and to tether to my laptop. It is definitely the network.
