Default Data Services OFF - SMS still readable?

Please Login to Remove!

1) I have a BES account provided by our company. I read somewhere that BES Administrator can read my SMS and Calls if we are using BES 4.1 and above. Is this possible even if my Data Services is switched OFF (BES Connection: not connected) but Voice Services Status is Available?

2) I have 2 SIMs (SIM_1 - BES and SIM_2 - No BlackBerry Service). If I use SIM_2 on a blackberry enabled phone, will the BES Admin be able to read my SMS on the phone?

No, they will not be able to read your messages in real time, but I believe that the logs will be sent to the server as soon as the data connection is resumed. However, as you are using a BES, I would advise you not to send messages or make phone calls that could be questionable to your admin. If you wish to do that, you should consider purchasing your own device and service apart from your company.

Is there a way for me to erase phone logs first before turning ON my data services?

There is, but I'm not going to help you with that.

This is your best option. Or, use your biz BB for biz only and quit the SIM switching.

Is there a way for me to know (via my BB) if the SMS logging is enabled or not without asking our BES Admin?

Always assume that it is. Always assume that all you do is or can be tracked. That way, you won't do anything stupid or anything that might put you in the unemployment line.

You don't have access to any of the admin stuff, not even the status of different services like SMS logging, from your Blackberry.

Default Data Services OFF - SMS still readable?

Is the call/SMS logging feature of BES associated with the BB handset or Telco Service provider? I have 2 lines - Line 1 (no BES) and Line 2 (with BES subscription). For non-corporate calls/SMS, I use my Line 1 SIM. Using Line 1, can our BES Administrator keep track of call/SMS?

BES associates with your device. You carrier is irrelevant to BES. Again, don't send questionable SMS messages if you're concerned and use a device that isn't associated with your company's BES.

If I use a pre-paid SIM card which doesn't have data services (and not enrolled with BES), will BES still be able to monitor personal calls/sms?

As I mentioned before, when you put your SIM back in, the device will sync all of the messages and calls you sent/received.

You really need to use a different device if you don't want your messages and calls monitored.

YES!!! the BES is connected to the DEVICE aka YOUR BLACKBERRY, not the SIM card...

once again, the BES is connected with the BLACKBERRY, not the SIM... so if you use a SIM that doesnt have data on it then the report of the SMS and call logs will be queued and sent when you have data again....

get it yet?

When you put the sim card that does have data services enabled back in the BB, the BES will be updated.

If you're business has paid for your device and your bill, and they don't want you to use it for personal use, then don't use it for such.

What's the problem?
