It's the law to have to pay taxes if the company has a brick & mortar store in the state in which it sells you the product.

OK let me explain the deal, and it has nothing to do with taxes. If you are an existing Verizon customer and are entitled to the TWO YEAR UPGRADE deal, you technically "save" $70.00 by buying on line. However if you buy in a Verizon owned store you will receive a mail-in coupon for $70.00 whereby you mail in your receipt, the bar code side of the box and a copy of your last water bill (only joking) and you will hopefully and many weeks later receive back your $70.00!

I know this to be true as I originally ordered on line, then cancelled and went into my local store, paid the extra $70.00 and they gave me the mail-in coupon which I have submitted. Hopefully I will receive the $70.00 this year before Obama and Pelosi find a way to tax it for their welfare programs!

That's what I thought. Thanks for confirming!

This is the only incentive I can see in getting it online. My wife's 2 yr mark is next month, so can't get it anyway 'til next week, at the earliest.

So If I'm paying taxes anyway, I'll only be saving the $18 (activation fee) total.

I'll prolly just get it in the Sprint Store here locally so I don't have to wait for it in the mail.

Thanks all

So how much will you end up paying after your mail in rebate. I am an existing customer and I did a two year renewal in the store. The Tour was $299.99 and I got an instant $50 VIP discount bringing the price down to $249.99. Then I got a $100 mail in rebate bringing the final cost down to $149.99.

On Amazon you can buy a Verizon Tour, with a plan, for $99. There is a Verizon sale going on this weekend for free activation (also advertised on the Verizon site), so you save $35 per phone. That sale is good through Monday August 10. Amazon offers free two-day shipping on phones bought with a plan.

The law says that you are liable to pay sales tax with your April return, on any mail order items you buy that did not charge sales tax. Apart from that, in my state anyway, there is no sales tax on items shipped from Amazon.

Amazon does apparently have a presence in Kentucky because a friend who lives there has to pay the tax when ordering.
