Question 7100i - sim type

Please Login to Remove!

Will my sim card from my nextel flip phone work in a 7100i? I know i will need to add a blackberry dataplan but i wanted to make sure i wouldn't need to buy a $30 sim card.

I believe not. You can use the 7100i sims in the flip but not the other way around.

64k SIM cards (they are yellow on the back) will theoretically work with a 7100i, as it uses the same SIM. However, it has to be a later version of a 64k SIM (i.e. from an i860 or an i265); earlier SIMs (like ones in the i730) were not provisioned for MMS messaging or other enhanced data usage, and will not work. Later versions have black indents on the gold contacts, whereas the earlier versions do not. Hope this helps, peace.

Default Sim

My SIM came out of my i760, which i had to transfer to my spare (i265) it worked fine in that. On the back it says Nextel 600 Contcs & 25 Grps. Anyone know if that will work in the 7100i. the compatibility check on nextel's site doesn't list any of these phones nor the 7100i.

Sounds like you have a 128k SIM. Unfortunately that SIM won't work :(

Update, i spoke with nextel. they said my sim card should work with it. My worry is they told me that if the BB's IMEI is still registered on another account it will not work with my sim. I have emailed the seller to ensure that it is not registered. thank's for everyone's input.

Default Had the same question

If you want all your contacts and stuff, throw in the old sim, upload the contacts to the BB, and then re-insert your BB SIM. That's what I did, worked a charm.

Tk, your sim should work. I use a card that was in my 730 & 860 prior to the bb. I still have the bb sim somewhere around the office. If it doesn't, just pick 1 up on eBay. Should be pretty cheap.

I'm gonna jump in here too... I think I'm wondering the same thing... I would like to be able to just swap my sim from my BB to my i870 Nextel on occasion. The i870 is just smaller and easier to take with you.
I know the BB has an option for SIM phone book... here's my questions...

Has the BB changed any info on the SIM card?
Will the phone read all of my contacts still?
Will all of my e-mails and PIN's pop up when I power the BB back up?

Thanks for the help!

The BB won't affect the SIM functionality in any way; you'll still be able to read the contacts in an i870 (or any 3-digit phone).
