I just upgraded to the bb Tour 9630, after having much frustration with the curve 8330. Since I received the Tour, I can't seem to figure out why I cant get the following to work like I had on the curve...

On the new Tour handset, I have 2 different email addresses (both gmail) which I have separated as 2 different icons on my phone. Every time I receive an email, the new email icon appears at the very top of the phone (along with all other icons), however there is no red asterisk that appears directly on top of the actual mailbox which received the mail. This is very frustrating because I need to check both email boxes to see where the new mail was received.

When I go to OPTIONS, GENERAL OPTIONS, the "Display New Message Indicator" option only appears when you select "UNREAD" from the DISPLAY MESSAGE COUNT. And then it disappears when I select "NONE." So this means that I can only see the red asterisk over the specific email box if I have those annoying counts of emails at the top also.


I didnt have this issue with the Curve. I was able to have the red asterisk on the individual inbox icon, without the email icon (and count) at the top of the screen. Was this a feature changed for the tour?? I find it hard to believe, and I would be very surprised if that's the case. Maybe my phone is defective?

I have experienced the same thing. I have been frustrated that the Tour did not display the asterisk for some time. Last night I turned on the unread count and poof - it started working. Like you, I dont need to know I have 2300 unread emails.

This appears to be an oversight in the software as I cant imagine they intended it to be this way. Hopefully a future release will correct (current 5.0 does not)

After speaking w Tech support on phone, they tried to delete the MESSAGES database once the phone is connected to the computer using the bb software. They said I can also try deleting the SERVICE BOOKS database. Reluctantly, I deleted just the MESSAGES db and that seems to have fixed the high number, and Ive started to get used to and enjoy the counting of the messages. As long as I'm now opening each mail, the indicator goes away. Its fine to deal with now.
