Default got a new 9900.......

Please Login to Remove!

I did a software update on it. Its now running 7.1.0.714 platform 5.1.0.532

I've only been using it less that a day but it seems to freeze up pretty regularly and stop responding to any input from either the keypad or the touchscreen. Sometimes it comes back after a while other times I have to reboot it. Is this buggy os software or are these handsets generally troublesome. I also just saw a review that says the battery doesn't last much longer than a day and I bought this to replace a pretty rubbish battery on my 9870. Any ideas?

The 9900 is not generally troublesome.

Is this happening with the stock OS, right after the upgrade, or have you installed apps?

Thanks Ali. Seems to be when rebooting or using app store even though apparantly you are sposed to be able to use other apps when using the app store on this phone I am not finding that the case. What can I do to maximise the battery life apart from teh obvious stuff. I mean OS wise is there a newer one. How much life are you guys getting. mines been on for 7 hours and half my battery life is gone

Opinions differ on the subject of improving battery life. I don't think OS version can make a significant difference, though others may disagree. I think you are really limited to the usual stuff (lower screen brightness and timeout to minimum tolerable, turn off wifi and Bluetooth, don't have apps running and updating that aren't absolutely necesarry, that sort of thing).

The frequent device pausing is not normal. If it is happening when you start app world, that is probably something you habe to live with. But if it is happening a lot when browsing or reading email, something is wrong and needs to be corrected.

Make sure that you are running apps designed for the 9900 and OS 7.1. Do a battery pull and see if that helps.

Thanks guys. One last question for now. I appreciate your help very much... On my last BB on the home screen you could see the top row of icons without having the maximise the panel. I'd have my frequently used apps in this top row to save time. Is this poss on the 9900?

I may not understand exctly what you want to do, but. ...

You of course see multiple panels by default. You can use all of them, or turn off the ones you don't want. The ALL panel holds all icons, and this one can't be turned off.

You can drag a panel up or down to show more or fewer icons. Sounds like you want to drag the panel down so only the top row of icons are visible, and put the app icons you want to use on the top row.

My advice is set the home screen options to use application shortcuts. Use the shortcuts for things like browser and messages, and save the space on the top row for frequently used apps that do not have a shortcut.

basically my homescreen currently shows no app icons at all. I have to maximise the all panel to see anything. Can I tweek it so that I can see the top 6 icons without having to maximise the panel?

Sounds like you dragged the panel all the way down. Do you see the little triangle bottom center of screen. Drag it up just to show the top row of icons, and then release it, so the panel just shows that top row.

Just takes familiarity. Play with the device and experiment.

Not having much fun with this. When it works in limited burst I like it. Just tried to load a game the whole thing froze whilst loading it. ( I seem to have the whirly clock cursor a hell of a lot) I had to do a battery pull (Really unpleasant cause this phone arrived with one of the four gold coloured battery contacts slightly damaged so you have to fiddle with it to get the battery to go in. Now I cant send sms cause it says "requested facility not subscribed" So had to another battery pull and I still can't send sms. WTF?

Why didn't you exchange or return the device if it was damaged when received?

It sounds like there may be other issues with it as well.

Well, remove the card and see what happens.

Hopefully someone didn't sell you their problem.

That will rule out software glitch.

If you haven't done it yet, don't reload your user installed apps for a while. Test it for a day, or half a day, just stock. See how it performs. Then install just the apps you absolutely need, one at a time if possible, and test for a while.

sound advice I think I'd screwed it with some third party app. Still does annoying things like resetting itself in my pocket and even weirder. Turning the camera on whilst the keypad is still locked. How is that even possible!!!!! But its a lot better than it was ai thanks for your patience and replies
