Default Caller hears me, I don't hear them

Please Login to Remove!

I've had this problem with my AT&T 8100 almost since the day I bought it. About one time out of 10 (conservatively) my 8100 will ring, I'll pick up by either clicking on the trackball or pushing the green answer button. The screen shows "connected", but I can't hear the caller. I've learned to say "sorry, we have a bad connection, please call back." The caller returns the call and tells me they heard me but I obviously didn't hear them.

I've spoken to AT&T and Blackberry about this on multiple occasions, and I had the 8100 replaced a few months ago. Still the problem persists. Any ideas?

I have a buddy in Philly and you guys must get poor reception because he has the same problem (at various times). I don't think it's your phone.
If it is, it must be something wrong with your speaker.

He has replaced his phone and the problem still happens. Not as much though. He is also with AT&T.

Hope this helpls,
Rolo

I moved here from Lexington, KY about 7 months ago and had the same problem there. I also had it with Cingular, before they became AT&T. Could it possibly be because I answer the phone by punching the trackball instead of the green key? Maybe it's not making a complete connection?

Thanks, Jim

it sounds like a signal issue. Also, you can try switching your phone from handset to speakerphone, see if you can hear them. If you can, switch back and I have had success in the past getting the audio to come through that way. Also make sure your handheld is updated to the latest OS.

Just like Sith said, I think it's a signal issue with Philly. I doubt how you answer the phone has anything to do with it but you can try to switch it from using the trackball back to the button and see if that helps.

good luck,
