7130 EVDO in New York City
Please Login to Remove!
First off, I have had my 7130 for a few days and I'd be more than happy to answer questions about the device for anybody who may be considering buying on.
Quick question, Though I am in New York City, a clear EVDO area, I have seen quite bit of changing on the device from 1x-1X-1XEVDO. Very rarely does is stay on EVDO for an extended period...AND it is draining the battery quite badly.
Is anybody else experiencing this?

Makes Sense...My office is in midtown, and that is where I am having the most trouble.
Have you had any other problems?

Similar issues downtown
Since I got the unit yesterday, it drops to 1X about 30% of the time, and I have gotten "Data Connection Refused" more than once. Restarting the unit usually returns things to normal.
I haven't noticed battery drain yet, but I leave mine charging most of the time.

I am downtown, and mine is working excellent. Other then me not getting ringtone exceptions to work so far, but thats on my account Receptions is amazing, better then the 7250, on par with a motorola. My battery lasts me well into a day, probably closer to 2 if I didnt charge it everynight, and I am in evdo from work to home on long island. I also send/receive a lot of email, plus make many calls.

In midtown and in Brooklyn I've had the same issues with the 7130e. The most annoying is "Data Connection Refused" when not 5 min earlier I'd been using the browser.
Any guess on whether this will eventually improve? Does Verizon pay attention to these things?

I would really hope so. I didn't spend hard earned money on something that I can only expect to work 50% of the time.
I think if all of us are having these same issues, Verizon ought to compensate us...
Why bring a product to market that clearly isn't ready?

I've noticed this since I got it on Dec 1st. I'm an ex-7750 owner and I was ALWAYS in 1X between work (Soho) and home (Northern NJ). With the new 7130, I go between 1XEV, 1X and even drop to 1x which means I can't get email or browse even at slow speeds. Some trips in, it works flawlessly while other times, I'll get sporadic issues data service issues. Normally I'd get 1 or 2 of those in a row and then it goes through.
When it works great, it's terrific. I wish the browser title bar showed 1x, 1X or 1XEV on it. Would be helpful.
I haven't used a non-7130e EVDO phone so I really don't know how another device, in the same location at the same time, would match what I'm seeing.

What was your problem - same as others here have reported in this thread?
And what does *22899 do? I recall something like *289 in the past that did something with updating an internal list. Same sort of thing?
Edit: Searching Google Groups turned up the following:
Doing *22890 does the complete phone programming while doing *22899 just
updates the PRL info.

same issues the the DCR and switching toi 1x, 1X, 1XEV.
I beleive the issue is a network issue, but doing the *22899 seemed to resolve the issue. Maybe it resets the device on the towers??
You can read more here:

Same problems when upgrading the 7250 to EVDO. I have both the 7250 and 7130 and after doing the *22899 the problems stopped. However, I think it was just a coincidence with soemthing verizon did with the towers. I am just guessing, but my issues stopped last Thursday. Last Wed. was the last I had the DCR on either device.

7130e Questions
I've got a few a few questions.....
How do I get the "Enterprise Activation" icon off my screen if I'm not going to be synching my a work email to it?
Also, I use Hotmail, and wehn I used the browser to get in to see my account, it states that "Javascript required to sign in"?
Any help would be appreciated.

In the home screen, highlight the icon, click trackwheel, select hide icon.

I've been getting this too - and restaring the unit HAS NOT fixed the issue. I usually get perfect service in my apartment, but with this new phone have had fluctuations. My phone goes from 5 bars to 0 bars, from 1x to EVDO all the time.
